Those airports are working all year round. Major airport is Sofia International Airport, followed by two coastal airports where charter flights land mainly in summer season, while regular operating all year round international airlines being Austrian Airlines, Turkish Airlines and Siberia Airlines to Varna and only Siberia Airlines to Burgas. Plovdiv airport serves also charter flights mostly during winter season. Easy Jet is flying on regular basis to Plovdiv as well. By sea the country is reachable from Varna and Burgas ports where cruise liners coast or by yacht ports of Balchik or Tsarevo. By river Bulgaria can be reached through 4 river checkpoints – Vidin, Lom, Svishtov, Ruse and Silistra. Tourists may reach Bulgaria by land via 17 checkpoints (6 from Greece, 5 from Serbia, 3 from Macedonia and 3 from Turkey). Main way of transport in Bulgaria is the automotive, followed by the air and the railway transport. Tourist groups are usually served by luxury buses, while individuals use private transfers or rent-a-car. BACKGROUND INFORMATION 1. On Wednesday 5 January 2011, the Bulgarian authorities confirmed a case of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in one of three wild boars shot on 30 December 2010 in the municipality of Malko Tarnovo, Burgas region, around 2 km from the border with Turkey. 2. Bulgaria has implemented the measures in the framework of Council Directive 2003/85/EC of 29 September 2003 on EU measures for the control of foot-and-mouth disease. The measures provided for in the Directive include epidemiological investigation, suspension of hunting and a ban in feeding wild animals, placing under official surveillance holdings keeping animals of susceptible species, inspection by an official veterinarian of all wild animals shot or found dead, surveillance programmes and prevention measures applicable to the holdings keeping animals of susceptible species and if necessary, in its surroundings, including the transport and movement of animals of susceptible species within, from and to the area, etc. 3. The Bulgarian authorities established a protection zone of 3 km and a surveillance zone of 10 km radius around Kosti and launched a sero-epidemiological surveillance programme within the surveillance zone and in all villages and settlements in the municipalities of Sredets, Malko Tarnovo and Tsarevo. 4.

    “Accessible heritage – Cultural Assets Based Sustainable Tourism (CAST)” CB005.2.21.071 E-bulletin – 3 Main activities that took place during the third three months long period of the project between dates 05/09/2020 and 04/12/2020 include below-listed events: 1. Second bilateral event in Tsarevo on 22/10/2020: Second bilateral event took place in Tsarevo / Ahtopol on 22/10/2020 with participation of the Representative of Kaynarca Municipality. The event included a press conference as well for informing the local public and relevant local stakeholders of the action. On October 22, 2020, at an official ceremony in the town of Ahtopol, the construction activities under the project “Improvement of the access to the late antique and medieval fortress in the town of Ahtopol. Accessible Heritage - Sustainable Tourism Based on Cultural Assets (CAST)” under the Interreg Cross-Border Cooperation Program - IPA CBC Bulgaria-Turkey 2014-2020. The symbolic first sod was made by the mayor of Tsarevo Municipality, Eng. Georgi Lapchev. The event was also attended by the Chairman of the Municipal Council of Tsarevo Mrs. Tanya Yancheva, the Mayor of Ahtopol Stanislav Dimitrov, representatives of the project partner Municipality of Kaynardzha, Turkey and the contractor, project teams, representatives of municipal administration, municipal councilors and citizens. With the grant provided to the Municipality of Tsarevo, the access to the discovered remains of a late antique and medieval fortress in the town of Ahtopol will be improved and improved. Construction and installation activities include reconstruction of the two existing stairs leading to the fortress walls - laying natural stone flooring, installation of railings and lighting poles with wrought iron lanterns and built-in lighting on the steps.
