June 2007  Campus News Graduation On May 16, 2007, the 98 young women comprising the Class of 2007 at De La Salle’s Lourdes Hall Campus were presented their diplomas by De La Salle – Lourdes Hall Campus principal Diane Brown and De La Salle president Br. Michael Quirk, FSC at the baccalaureate Mass held at Holy Name Cathedral. The celebrant was Fr. Thomas P. Conde, the Vocation Director at St. Joseph College Seminary.

The following evening, the 112th baccalaureate Mass for De La Salle’s Institute Campus was held at Holy Name Cathedral as 150 young men received their De La Salle diplomas from De La Salle-Institute Campus principal James Krygier and Br. Michael Quirk. The celebrant was the Very Reverend John F. Canary, the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Congratulations and best wishes to the 248 young women and young men who comprise De La Salle’s Class of 2007!

During the Rose & Candle Ceremony, the seniors presented candles to the juniors as a reminder of their responsibility to continue the traditions of De La Salle and as a symbol of the light of knowledge that connects us as a community of learners. The members of the junior class presented the seniors with roses as a reminder that they will never be forgotten. The roses also symbolized the heartfelt appreciation for the contributions of the Class of 2007.

Elliott Brown & Jeremy Leonard IBCA All-State Elliott Brown ’08 and Jeremy Leonard ’08 were chosen to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association’s All- Baseball Recap State Teams. Tolton volunteer Emily Alberghini (pictured below, right) was honored as the 2007 Rookie Tutor of the Year by the Literacy Volunteers of Illinois at the annual On the Road to Literacy Conference. The award was issued by the Literacy Volunteers of Illinois and the University of Illinois-Chicago Center for Literacy. Alberghini, who has volunteered at least 25 hours per week at Tolton over the last year, was nominated by Lynn Mathis, the Tolton instructor with whom Alberghini works.

In her nomination letter, Mathis wrote that “Emily has shown herself to be a very giving person. She is a full-time volunteer who gives much more than full-time service.
