Index Chart Market Wrap Up

● Key equity indices ended flat afer a volatile trade. The Nify managed to close above 17,350 level afer hitting the day's low of 17,254.20 in afernoon trade.

● The S&P BSE Sensex, dropped 29.22 points or 0.05% at 58,250.26. The Nify 50 index fell 8.6 points or 0.05% to end at 17,353.50.

● The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.81% and the BSE Small-Cap index gained 0.55%.

● Among the sectoral indices on the BSE, the Power index (up 1.30%), the CD index (up 1.13%) and the Bankex (up 1.02%) outperformed the S&P BSE Sensex. Meanwhile, the Teck index (down 0.75%), the IT index (down 0.73%) and the Telecom index (down 0.51%) underperformed the S&P BSE Sensex.

Global News

● France's trade deficit increased to EUR 6.96 billion in July from EUR 6.05 billion in June. In the same period last year, the shortfall totaled EUR 6.79 billion. Exports dropped 2% on a monthly basis in July and imports gained only 0.1%.

● France's current account deficit increased to EUR 3.5 billion in July from EUR 0.9 billion in June.

● French payroll employment rose 1.1% from the previous period to 25.68 million in the second quarter of 2021.

● Japan's gross domestic product was up 1.9% on year in the second quarter of 2021, following the 3.7% contraction in the previous three months. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, GDP was up 0.5% - afer sinking 0.9% in the three months prior.

● Japan had a current account surplus of 1.910 trillion yen in July - up 24.5% on year, following the 905.1 billion yen surplus in June. Exports were up 37.5% on year at 7.220 trillion yen, while imports jumped an annual 29.3% to 6.598 trillion yen

Economic News

● Crude Oil traded at US$ 69.47/bbl (IST 17:00).

● INR weakened to Rs. 73.60 from Rs. 73.42 against each US$ resulting in daily change of 0.25%.

● The finance ministry said income taxpayers can file applications before the interim board for settlement of pending tax cases at the Income Tax Settlement Commission (ITSC) level by September 30. The Finance Act, 2021, has amended the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961, to provide that the ITSC shall cease to operate with efect from February 1, 2021. Further, it has also been provided that no application for settlement can be filed on or afer February 1, which was the date on which the Finance Bill, 2021, was laid before the Lok Sabha.

● The Export Promotion Council for EOUs and SEZs (EPCES) sought the benefits of the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme to be extended to special economic zones and also urged the government to allow them to sell goods in the domestic tarif area.

● India is likely to lower the efective import duty on edible oils to provide some respite to households from rising prices. The government is considering reducing the efective import duty, which includes cess and other charges, on crude palm, soya and sunflower oil to 24.75% from 30.25% and on refined palm and soya oil to 31.75% from 41.25% now.

● The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has amended income-tax rules to permit authentication of records for faceless assessment through electronic verification code or EVC.
