MESSAGE Pinarayi Vijayan Chief Minister, Kerala erala has made a significant shift in its communications platforms K to handheld devices, owing to a surplus of mobile connections and smart phones. Hence today, phone numbers and email ids do not merely facilitate communication, but form an extension of a person’s identity itself. As the first state in the country to declare the internet a right to its citizens, Kerala is witnessing drastic changes in its communications scenario. We have already setup close to 2,000 free WiFi spots in public spaces across the State. Through the K-Fone project, all our homes and offices are being connected to an optical fiber network as well. Thus, we are emerging as a digital society. The Government of Kerala is broadening its information dissemina- tion methods, in accordance to the technological advancements in our society as a whole. Information regarding our various welfare schemes, development projects and services, is being shared with all sections of Kerala’s society. In this age of citizen journalism empowered by smart phones and mobile devices, common people can also share news. Wide prolif- eration of news makes fact checking essential, especially in this era of post – truth politics, and clickbait journalism. Media will have to verify the accuracy and authenticity of stories that emerge with the concerned official and authorities. Similarly, the Government will also have to share verified facts and figures with media houses. The Media Handbook and its mobile app ‘PRD Media Handbook’ will successfully
