For the first time in Big Brother history, four iconic international former houseguests are vying for a spot in the house, but only two will make it…and Canada holds all the cards. Starting today, Canadians have the chance to vote for two of this season’s houseguests by choosing two of four international wildcard players. Fans can cast their vote on BigBrotherCanada.ca for their favourite female and male competitor to enter the Big Brother Canada house. Upping the ante and raising the stakes, these international players take the competition to a whole new level as they bring their own unique Big Brother experiences to season four of Big Brother Canada. Voting closes Thursday, March 3 at 3 pm ET. Stay tuned to find out which wildcards make the cut as reveals roll out during the first broadcast week of Big Brother Canada, which premieres Wednesday, March 2 at 9 pm ET/PT on Global. Celebrating the international success of the worldwide juggernaut reality show franchise, the wildcard element brings together some of the most talked about players of all time to see how they fare amongst Canada’s dynamic new houseguests. The international wildcard choices are: Jase Wirey (Big Brother US), Nikki Grahame (Big Brother UK), Tim Dormer (Big Brother Australia), and Veronica Graf (Big Brother Italy). “We’re very excited to be introducing this new aspect to Big Brother Canada which has never been done in any country before,” said Christine Shipton, SVP, Content, Shaw Media. “The addition of the international wildcards makes this season especially unique and unpredictable. Big Brother follows different house rules in each country and these worlds are about to collide!” See below for more details on the four international wildcard houseguests. Look for more Big Brother Canada Season 4 houseguest announcements tomorrow on ETCanada.com. Jase Wirey Big Brother US (Seasons 5 and 7) Hometown: USA Occupation: Sales and Safety Trainer Jase is instantly recognizable to any Big Brother fan from the popular US version of the show and is still the only houseguest to win the first Head of Household in multiple seasons. Known for his physical abilities and his dislike for wearing shirts, Jase is looking for redemption in the Big Brother Canada house. Nikki Grahame Big Brother UK (has played in a total of five seasons) Age: 33 Hometown: London, United Kingdom Occupation: TV Personality Nikki Grahame is quite simply a Big Brother franchise icon, and she’ll be the first to make that known! Her behavior – most notably her epic diary room temper tantrums – is legendary. She has appeared in five different seasons of the series and also had her own reality series, Princess Nikki. In 2006, her first season on the show, she was the 12th most written about person in the UK. Tim Dormer Winner Big Brother Australia (Season 10) Age: 31 Hometown: Sydney, Australia Occupation: TV/Radio Personality Tim is one of Australia’s biggest reality TV stars. As the Season 10 winner of Big Brother Australia, he’s charmed audiences and houseguests alike. Even though he’s made his way to the top as a manipulator, he’s clearly rooting for a fair game, and often stands up for the underdog. Veronica Graf Big Brother Italy (Season 13) Age: 26 Hometown: Faenza, Italy Occupation: TV Personality/Model Veronica is the most famous and most talked about Italian houseguest ever. Although commonly seen as a sexy Playboy bunny (she posed in the Italian edition of the magazine), she has also studied business and economics. Sure to stir up controversy, houseguests will not be able to judge this book by its cover. Watch ET Canada tonight at 7:30 pm ET on Global for interviews with the Big Brother Canada international wildcards! Fans can also read full bios, see photos, and watch exclusive online videos at BigBrotherCanada.ca. Following a coast-to-coast casting call, a new group of houseguests are moving into an overhauled Big Brother Canada house outfitted wall-to-wall with cameras and microphones capturing their every move. The houseguests compete for a grand prize of $100,000, a $25,000 gift card from The Brick, and an OxiCleanTM prize pack valued at $10,000 that includes $500 of fabric care products and a $9,500 wardrobe makeover. Big Brother House The Big Brother House is Watching You Ed Hollis, Edinburgh College of Art, Edinburgh, UK Andy Milligan, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, UK Abstract: The transitory celebrities who compete in Big Brother occupy the arena of their competition agog and open mouthed, for while Big Brother is, apparently, about the contestants, the real star of the reality show is the House in which it takes place. The Big Brother House is a place of mirrors concealing hidden eyes, disembodied voices and multiple voyeurs. Rather than granted refuge in this house, its occupants are exposed in a crazy cottage where Orwell meets vaudeville; and prison cells or luxuriant dens appear overnight installed by mischievous pixies. The BB House is the antithesis of Bachelard’s vertically ordered Oneiric Axis of nightmarish cellar, formal, domestic ‘middle kingdom’, and the dream space of the attic. The Big Brother house is horizontally layered but fabricated, (to build and to lie). The Big Brother House is a model in extremis of what contemporary domestic interior has become. Like a Foucaulvian heterotopia it is an hermetic, apparently complete model of occupancy. Indeed there is no exterior to this house, which is both closed-off and opened-up through live digital streaming, RSS feeds, and text updates. As such the BB House reveals surrealist tendencies: the mirrors are evocative of Magritte; the windows are for the voyeur not external vista; the BB occupants and the TV viewers are passive idle loafers. In this respect, the Big Brother House reflects the spectacular model homes that have adorned expos from the Great to the Ideal Home exhibitions, from Peter and Alison Smithson’s House of the Future (1956) to Archigram’s 1990 Automated House (1967).

The price for the deal was not disclosed but is widely reported to be $2.2 billion. A statement from the group said the deal will be financed through a capital increase of Banijay Group and debt. On closure, subject to regulatory clearances and employee consultations. Post-closing, the combined group will be majority owned (67.1%) by LDH, the holding company controlled by Stephane Courbit's LOV Group, and Vivendi (32.9%), which invested in Banijay in 2014. The merged group said it will own almost 200 production companies in 23 territories and the rights for close to 100,000 hours of content, adding that total pro-forma revenue of the combined group is expected to be €3 billion ($3.3 billion) this year. Endemol Shine Group is jointly owned by Disney, which acquired its 50% stake as part of its acquisition of 21st Century Fox last year, and funds managed by affiliates of Apollo Global Management. Endemol Shine has 120 production labels and owns 66,000 hours of scripted and non- scripted programming and over 4,300 registered formats. International Journal of Innovative Research in Education, Technology & Social Strategies p-ISSN: 2465-7298 | e-ISSN: 2467-8163 IJIRETSS Volume 6, Number 1 March, 2019 The Nigerian State and the Problematic of Nigeria's Big Brother Role in Nigeria's Foreign Intervention Missions Ugwu, Dave Ude Institute of Public Policy and Administration, IPPA University of Calabar – Nigeria A b s t r a c t igeria's foreign or external intervention policy is an important aspect of Nigerian's external relations whose primary focus is on the African Ncontinent. Within Nigeria's foreign intervention outreach, Nigeria relates as a Regional Power within the West African Sub-Region and as a Big Brother Nation and as a 'Giant of Africa' within the African continent. The reasons for this pride of place are arguably fascinating. Although Nigeria also has several external relations with the rest of the world, its role as a Big Brother Nation in Africa consist in an attachment to ensuring several fundamental objectives, chief among them of which are those of the following, namely, the political independence of African states from colonialism, the unity and mutual coexistence of African states, the political stability of the continent and the socio-economic and political progress of Africa. Achievement of these external objectives and missions has historically been an uphill task, and in consequences, some of the challenges or problematic of Big Brother Nigeria in leading the rest of Africa towards these objectives have been those of the following: the problematic of intelligence, strategic inefficiency, corruption, political and economic instability, and the dwindling image of the country in the global community.

LIMITATIONS ON COPYRIGHT PROTECTION FOR FORMAT IDEAS IN REALITY TELEVISION PROGRAMMING I. INTRODUCTION Television networks constantly compete to find and produce the next big hit. The shifting economic landscape forged by increasing competition between and among ever-proliferating media platforms, however, places extreme pressure on network profit margins. Fully scripted hour-long dramas and half-hour comedies have become increasingly costly, while delivering diminishing ratings in the key demographics most valued by advertisers. It therefore is not surprising that the reality television genre has become a staple of network schedules. New reality shows are churned out each season.1 The main appeal, of course, is that they are cheap to make and addictive to watch. Networks are able to take ordinary people and create a show without having to pay “A-list” actor salaries and hire teams of writers.2 Many of the most popular programs are unscripted, meaning lower cost for higher ratings. Even where the ratings are flat, such shows are capable of generating higher profit margins through advertising directed to large groups of more readily targeted viewers.
