Lds church leadership handbook

Continue The new guide for leaders and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (first announced in January) is now available in English online and in the Gospel Library app. Nine of the 38 chapters were completely rewritten and one section of the other chapter was updated. See a summary of the changes below. Also see a list of frequently asked questions. This book, titled General Guide: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, replaces both Handbook 1 (for stake and bishops presidents) and Handbook 2 (for all other leaders). The new book (only digital, with a few exceptions for some areas) is available to all and will be regularly updated to give it the necessary flexibility to help thousands of leaders around the world adapt the church's various programs, policies, and procedures to their circumstances with loving, pastoral care. Downloadable video sound bites for journalists In the version released today, almost 80% of the content was translated from the old directories and reordered in the new organizational structure. Why were only nine chapters rewritten? With changes in several important chapters completed in 2019 (see, for example, here and here), Church leaders have decided to accelerate the production of new consolidated leadership instead of updating old resources. Our original plan was to completely rewrite the manual and then translate that. This gave us a delivery date, probably 2022, said Elder Anthony D. Perkins, executive director of the Church Correlation Department, which oversees the leadership. But as the first chapters came out, the First Presidency and the Twelve believed that updates were important enough to release them as soon as possible. See the First Presidency's letter on the new leadership. The Church of Jesus Christ believes in the continuing revelation of the prophets and apostles. And that means, in a word, that the Church is true and alive. It can change, Elder Perkins said. Having a guide that is largely digitally delivered allows us to update it as a new revelation is received as the Church goes in new directions as part of its worldwide growth. © 2020 Intellectual Reserve, Inc. All rights are reserved. Many women and men of Latter-day Saints were not familiar with previous Church guidelines, especially Handbook 1. Each of the updated chapters available today is based on principles and has broad application to all members of the Church. It is so important for members to understand, both men and women, that God gives us His strength so that we can go and do what He asked us to do, said Sister Reina I. Aburto of the General Presidency, who was closely involved in the creation of the new And He also delegated power to us so that we could receive revelation and have his help and his guidance every step of the way. The nine updated chapters (all 38 will be reworked by 2021) reflect a new tone and approach that has been under consideration for several years. If you look at the evolution of leadership over the last hundred years, it's going from administrative procedures to a more ministerial voice, Elder Perkins said. What we mean is that previous reference books were kind of designed for larger units - say, Alpine, Utah - and we need a guide that can be applied even in the smallest units. Sister Aburto, a Nicaraguan-born member who is part of a committee that meets regularly to review every word of the leadership, said the text's ministerial tone would help leaders from different walks of life better understand and apply its principles. She said that her experience as a professional interpreter was particularly useful in the review process. I was trying to find places where translating from English to Spanish can be difficult and difficult, she says. I tried to make sure that the language is clear, so when it is translated, the real meaning is put in translation. The book is translated into 51 languages as soon as possible. Church leaders in non-English speaking wards must use the old manual until a new version is available in their language. Another advantage of the digital guide is that it accommodates different learning styles. Some people learn by reading, others watch, Elder Perkins said. And so the guide will have a built-in video showing how to do something. The following is a summary of the new contents of the handbook. Also see this list of frequently asked questions. Summary of nine rewritten chapters 1: God's plan and your role in the work of salvation and exaltation This chapter is new and helps Latter-day Saints understand God's plan of happiness, the work of salvation and exaltation (the organizing basis for the General Guide) and the purpose of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 2: Supporting individuals and families in the work of the salvation and exaltation of the Saints teaches the role of the family in God's plan, the central role of the home in the work of salvation and exaltation, and the relationship between home and the Church. 3: Leaders and members of the Priesthood Church learn about what the is, where it comes from, and how it works and blesses life. This includes the truth that all Latter-day Saints, regardless of their gender or Church assignment, exercise delegated priesthood powers when they are given formal opportunities to serve in their wards. All members who will keep their covenants - women, men, and children - are blessed with God's priesthood in their homes to strengthen themselves and their families, the chapter concludes. 4: Leadership in the Church of Jesus Christ members teach the principles of Christ's leadership, including how to prepare spiritually, counsel together and build unity with others in their congregation and the importance of delegation. 15: Seminary and Institutes of Religion This chapter sets out a church seminary program (religious education for adolescents) and an Institute program (religious teaching of latter-day saints between the ages of 18 and 30). The text also points readers to CES. ChurchofJesusChrist.org for more information on Church Elementary and Secondary Schools, BYU-Pathway Worldwide and Higher Education. 18: Priesthood Sacraments and Blessings This chapter includes references to resources and instructional videos that show how to conduct many of the various rites of the Church. More videos will be added over time. 32: The Councils of Repentance and Membership in the Church This chapter (formerly known as Church discipline) has made a significant difference. It guides leaders in a more consistent way through the key decisions and actions needed to help people repent of serious sin. This chapter also focuses on how to help protect others from those who pose a physical or spiritual threat. Some key terms have changed. Disciplinary councils are now called church councils. As before, these counsels are an expression of love, hope, and care to help Latter-day Saints in repentance. In addition, instead of being disfellowshipped, members receive formal membership restrictions. And is now called rejection of membership. The idea behind these terminology changes is for us to understand that when we make a mistake in our lives, the Lord will always hold his hands of mercy, Sister Aburto said. 36: Creating, modifying and naming new units This chapter provides guidelines for the creation and adjustment of stakes, wards, and wards. 37: Specialized stakes, wards, and wards here, church leaders, and members explore the parameters for creating stakes, wards, and wards served by specific groups. These include those who speak a particular language, are students, are single, live in a care facility or are in some other unique circumstances. Updated Section 38.6: Here are Church policies and guidelines for church policies and procedures on a range of moral issues. Some policies are new, some have been updated and some may be updated in the future. These moral policies include abortion, abuse, in vitro fertilization, birth control, child pornography, incest, in vitro fertilization, same-sex marriage, upbringing, sexual abuse, single parents, sperm donation, suicide, surgical sterilization, surrogacy and a new record of Persons. Due to this, content from the Mormon and Gay website has moved to a new part of the ChurchofJesusChrist.org, with a new URL. There is also a new ChurchofJesusChrist.org for transgender people. One of the new moral strategies concerns individuals who identify as transgender. The reason the policy was added is that we have more questions coming from bishops and stake presidents saying, What can a transgender person do? What are the guidelines? Transgender policy states that everyone can attend our meetings and that we must create a warm, welcoming environment for everyone, including those who identify as transgender. At the same time, politics makes it clear that some things in the Church are gender-specific. Church leaders will continue to review and update leadership policies and guidelines as needed. General Guide: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Original titleInstrution to Colle Presidents, Bishops of Parishes and Tithing Stake Clerks (1889)CountryUnited StatesLanguageEnglishPublisherThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints2020 Common Handbook: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is an online book of instructions and policy for leaders and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The contents are prepared by the First Presidency of the Church and the Twelve Apostles. Along with standard church work (i.e. its biblical canon), the General Guide is an outstanding pretentious policy and practical guide for LDS Church leaders. Purpose In general, The General Guide contains institutional church policy, as opposed to church doctrine. However, concise statements of doctrine are usually presented at the beginning of sections in the manual to provide a doctrinal context in which policies are established and implemented. Thus, the General Guide combines the Holy Scriptures and the faiths of the church with its ecclesiology and statehood. The General Guide serves as a standard reference point for bishops and other leaders to make decisions. Leaders are encouraged to follow the holy spirit-led handbook and sensitivity to individual circumstances. Content and distribution of the Theme in the General Handbook include guidelines that include general, regional and regional administration; responsibilities as stake president; Bishop's responsibilities; temples and marriage; Missionary service; Management of church well-being; Church membership councils and the removal of names; Interviews and consultations; Physical objects creation, change naming new new ones Military relations; Church education system; Perpetual Education Fund; Records and reports Finance Patriarch's bets The policy of ordinances and blessings; general church policy on administrative, medical and medical and moral issues. It also contains information primarily related to the functions of leaders of Church priesthood quorums and support organizations. In this area, topics include guidelines involving families and the church in God's plan, priesthood principles, church leadership, ward council, ward and coll work, principles of well-being and leadership, the priesthood of Melhisek, the Aaron priesthood, the Relief Society, the Young Women' Society, Primary, Sunday School, events, music, cola organization, single members, uniformity and adaptation, church meetings, church callings, priesthood ordinances. The unauthorized distribution of parts of the Handbook until 2020 were not publicly available. In the past, unauthorized copies of the limited handbook have been available online. After a version of the Church Handbook was published in 1998, the Ministry of the Lighthouse of Gerald and Sandra Tanner published the part on the Internet without the permission of the church or including a copyright notice of the book. The text was also distributed to other websites associated with the ULM website. In a 1999 lawsuit against the Utah State Department of Lighthouse, the United States District Court issued an injunction prohibiting further duplication of the contents of the handbook and ordered the FDA to remove offensive material from its website. In May 2008, the LDS Church notified the Wikimedia Foundation that it believed the copyright of the Instructions Handbook had been infringed by a link posted to Wikinews. The link sent readers to the text of the handbook on the WikiLeaks website, which is not affiliated with the Wikimedia Foundation. Shortly after the complaint was filed, Wikinews deleted the link to the text from the article. In 2010, the church posted part of the manual on its official website, which was seen as part of a recent trend in the church to become more transparent. In 2020, the entire General Handbook was posted online. Discussion in the media While the General Guide covers a wide range of topics related to church organization and politics, the media attention has focused mainly on the church's social policy, which is outlined in the Handbook. As summarized in the Salt Lake Tribune, the Handbook states that the LDS Church opposes gambling (including state lotteries), weapons in churches, euthanasia, Satan worship, and hypnosis for entertainment. It decisively interferes with surrogacy, sperm donation, surgical sterilization (including vasectomy) and fertilization when sperm from anyone but her husband. But the church supports organ donation, income tax payments, members running for political office and autopsy. As for birth control, the Tribune commented, The handbook states that Mormon couples should raise and raise children, but the decision as to how many will be is extremely intimate and private and should be left between the couple and the Lord. Moreover, members of the church should not judge each other in this matter. The book also states that sexual relations in marriage are divinely approved not only for the purpose of procreation, but also as a way of expressing love and strengthening the emotional and spiritual bonds between husband and wife. The Tribune also noted that the LDS Church prevents the use of in vitro fertilization using sperm and ova from people outside the couple and that the LDS Church has no official position on drinking Coca-Cola. The Tribune cited one church member as applauding the public accessibility of the handbook, as it would allow church members to become more familiar with the church's position on certain social issues: I knew church members who were conscious that the handbook strongly discourages vasectomies. They had no idea that there was any policy against him.... If such a policy exists, I think it makes sense that everyone, not just those with leadership vocations, should know about them. Some members complained that the General Leadership did not always explain the doctrinal justification for the church's position on certain social issues, such as the in vitro fertilization of single women in the church. The General Handbook states that the in vitro fertilization of single women in the church is not approved and that single sisters who knowingly refuse to follow the advice of church leaders in this matter are subject to church discipline, but this does not explain why such treatment would not be met with single women in the church who adopt children. The 1968 History Leader's Handbook, defined as the first Church Handbook of Instructions, was published in 1899 as a small, 14-page booklet. It mainly contained instructions on how to manage tithing tithing payments by church members. The handbook was reviewed every year until 1910 and approximately every five years thereafter. The book was variously referred to as the Annual Instructions, the Instructions Circular, the Handbook of Instructions, the General Handbook of Instructions, the Church Handbook of Instructions, and, finally, the Handbook. In 1998, the book was divided into two volumes for the first time and renamed the Church Manual. In November 2010, a new edition for Church Leaders was published and released with new titles Handbook 1 and Handbook 2. One of the major changes between and the 2010 version of the guide is that the 2010 version softened the language about gay Mormons and eliminated the statements that same-sex relationships distort love relationships and that gay people should repent in their homosexual thoughts or feelings. In 2020, the two- volume handbook was combined into a single volume and was first published on the Internet in its entirety. Compared to earlier editions, the 2020 General Handbook has a soft tone regarding discipline, a focus on pastoral care,... clarity on complex issues and insisting on greater compassion for same-sex and transgender members.
