Virginia native, LTJG. (Lieutenant Junior Grade) Madeline G. Swegle and 25 classmates were designated naval aviators during a ceremony at the Naval Air Station (NAS) in Kingsville, Texas, amidst Covid-19 mitigation measures, i.e., social dis- tancing, wearing masks, etc. This was the largest graduating class of strike aviators in al- most a decade. Commanding Officer Matthew Maher presided over the cere- mony. The Wings of Gold signify an aviator's official completion of basic helicopter training in naval flight school.
