TONIGHT’S GAME The Flyers welcome in the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight in their 45th game of the season and 21st at home. The Flyers are 23-15-6 for 52 points after a 3-2 win over the on Wednesday night in the first of a three-game homestand. The victory snapped a four-game winless streak for the club and started a stretch where the Flyers play six of seven games at home, the second of which is tonight. The first half of that run wraps up on Monday when the Flyers host Boston before going to St. Louis for a Wednesday night contest.

FLYERS VS. TAMPA BAY This is the first of three games between the teams this season. Tampa Bay is the final Eastern Conference team the Flyers have yet to play this year. They also have not yet faced St. Louis or Nashville.

The Flyers have dropped five consecutive games to the Lightning, going 0-2-3 in that run with two losses and one shootout loss. Their last win over Tampa Bay came on December 29, 2017 and their last win here in Philadelphia came on January 7, 2017. In the 29 games vs. the Lightning since winning their fifth in a row over the club on March 2, 2010, the Flyers have gone 8-16-5 against Tampa Bay.

Saturday, November 17, 2018 – Tampa Bay 6, Flyers 5 (OT) at Wells Fargo Center: The Flyers erased a 5-1 deficit with four goals in 6:04 in the last half of the third period, but Tampa Bay recovered to get the game-winner in overtime. The Lightning took the lead on a power play goal by just over six minutes into the second period, and they saw it double on a goal by Cedric Paquette six minutes later. The Flyers got one of the goals back when James van Riemsdyk stuffed home a PPG for his first goal since returning to the club, coming with 5:27 left in the period, but the Lightning were able to regain the two-goal advantage when Brayden Point scored with 2:55 remaining. Tampa Bay then took the 5-1 lead on a pair of power play goals ten seconds apart in the third. Travis Konecny started the comeback with a power play goal with 9:36 remaining; it was followed up by a power play tally from Sean Couturier with 8:31 left and a second from Konecny with 4:02 to go. then tied it with 3:32 to play, but in the overtime, Alex Killorn gave Tampa Bay the second point when he scored 1:47 into the extra frame. Thursday, December 27, 2018 – Tampa Bay 6, Flyers 5 (OT) at : The Flyers answered a three-goal second-period flurry by the Lightning with one of their own in the third period, but Tampa Bay grabbed the overtime winner to take the extra point. Michael Raffl started off the scoring with a deflection that came with 9:10 remaining in the first period, but that was answered by a pair of Lightning tallies. Claude Giroux scored a highlight-reel goal 4:36 into the second period to tie it at 2-2, but Tampa Bay then scored three times in the final 7 ½ minutes of the middle frame. The Flyers took their turn in the third, picking up goals from 1:33 into the period, Robert Hagg at the 4:21 mark, and then the equalizer from Ivan Provorov at 8:38. Alex Killorn went on to pick up the game-winner 18 seconds into overtime. took the loss with several outstanding saves among his 31 stops, while Andrei Vasilevskiy earned the win with 28 saves. Tuesday, February 19, 2019 – Tampa Bay 5, Flyers 2 at Wells Fargo Center: The Lightning opened up a three-goal lead in the first 10:23 of the game and rode that cushion to a 5-2 win. Goals came from Mikhail Sergachev 2:22 into the game, Alex Killorn at 5:13 and J.T. Miller at 10:23, which brought Carter Hart’s game to an early end. The Flyers got on the board 1:03 into the third period on a goal by Oskar Lindblom, but the Lightning were able to answer on the power play when Yanni Gourde scored a little under seven minutes later. Travis Konecny made it a 4-2 game with 9:09 left in the third, but the Flyers would get no more on the evening – a Sean Couturier goal in the final minute was disallowed on a judgment of goaltender interference, and the Lightning finished it off with an empty netter. Hart stopped six of nine shots in 10:23 before stepping aside for Brian Elliott, who turned away 22 of 23 shots in 48:30 of action. Louis Domingue stopped 28 of 30 for Tampa Bay. Wednesday, January 8, 2020 – Flyers 3, Washington 2 at Wells Fargo Center: Kevin Hayes scored a shorthanded goal with 2:01 left in the second period that broke a 2-2 tie and stood up as the game winner, snapping the Flyers’ four-game winless streak. Travis Konecny opened the scoring 3:24 into the contest, and after the Capitals took a 2-1 lead on tallies by Nicklas Backstrom and Jakub Vrana, Robert Hagg tied things up with just under 42 seconds before the intermission. Hayes scored his goal after the Flyers withstood a nine- barrage from Washington to open the second period, and it stood up with Carter Hart blanking the Caps over the final 40 minutes with 20 of his 26 saves. took the loss despite 24 stops. Kevin Hayes recorded his 18th career game-winning goal and his fifth shorthanded GWG, but it was only the second shorthanded GWG that he’s scored that broke a tie to win a game. The other came on December 18, 2018 with NYR when he scored a shorthanded goal with 40 seconds left in regulation to break a 1-1 tie with Anaheim in a game the Rangers eventually won 3-1.

Sean Couturier set up the first Flyers goal, had five shots on goal, 10 total shot attempts, and was 9-for-10 on faceoffs.
