Fraser, Sigmundsdottir Atop the Leaderboard on Day 2

Madison, Wisconsin, Aug. 4, 2017—Day 2 of competition at the 2017 CrossFit Games ended with the same man atop the Leaderboard, but some changes among the top women.

Last year’s champion, of the United States, was in first, while Sara Sigmundsdottir, of Iceland, charged up the rankings to first place.

Friday ended around 9 p.m. today with individual athletes facing four tests: Sprint O- Course, 1RM Snatch, Triple-G Chipper and Assault Banger.

It was the second consecutive day of cloudy skies and rain.

Fraser ended the day with a 20th-place finish in Day 2’s last event, but still managed to maintain a 68-point lead over rookie Ricky Garard. Brent Fikowski, who placed fourth overall at last year’s Games, moved up to third place.

Assault Banger made for some twists among the women’s top spots. While Sigmundsdottir improved her ranking, she is still only 4 points ahead of Day 1’s overall leader, Tia-Clair Toomey, with two days of competition remaining. Toomey ended the previous two editions of the Games in second place. Meanwhile, Tennil Reed-Beuerlein, moved to third place.

Organizers have announced two events for Day 3. The first is Strongman’s Fear, which involves athletes moving a yoke, farmer’s logs and a sled 150 ft. across the field. Men will tackle a 420-lb. yoke, 170-lb. logs and a 265-lb. sled; women will wrestle a 300-lb. yoke, 120-lb. logs and a 220-lb. sled. When athletes move back, they must handstand walk. The second event is Muscle-Up Clean Leader, which calls for 8 rounds for time of 4 muscle-ups and 2 cleans that increase in weight each round—from 225 to 350 lb. for the men and from 145 to 235 lb. for the women.

Teams also navigated the obstacle course Friday morning under wet conditions. Afterward they moved on to a 1-rep-max clean and jerk for the men and the same for the women. Their day ended with Rowing Worm: 3 rounds for time of a 40/30-calorie row and 30 Worm squats.

Two-time Affiliate Cup champion CrossFit Mayhem—led by four-time Individual champion Rich Froning—remained in second overall. Meanwhile, Wasatch CrossFit, moved up to take the top spot. Wasatch includes three former individual competitors: Adrian Conway, Tiffany Hendrickson and Mandi Janowitz. CrossFit Milford was in third overall.

On Day 3, teams are slated to participate in three events: Bob Event, Couple Couplets and Worm Rotation.

The team competition resumes at 8 a.m. tomorrow, and individuals return to the field at 9 a.m. Teenagers and masters both begin Day 3 at 9 a.m.
