June 10, 2018 Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

JUNE IS DIACONATE MONTH (Part 1 of a 3 part series) Requirements to become a Permanent 1. Candidate must be a baptized and confirmed Catholic male and at least 35 years of age. 2. Candidate can be single or married. 3. Must be active in and good standing with the Church and his parish. 4. He must be willing to serve the Church under the direction of the . 5. He must have the recommendation of his pastor and approval for admission by the bishop. 6. He must be in both good physical and psychological health, and free of addictive behaviors. 7. After an initial year of discernment a candidate must complete a four-year training program (Year 1- Aspirancy, Year 2- Candidacy, Year 3-Lector, and Year 4-Acolyte), a total commitment of about five years. 8. In addition to academic training, Deacon formation also includes service to the poor, hospital ministry, multicultural activities, inter-religious exercises, supervised experiences and workshops. 9. During formation, the candidate’s wife is greatly involved in all aspects of her husband’s training. Together, they both attend 7-8 weekend retreats annually, small group meetings with other husband-wife candidates, and meetings with an assigned mentor (an ordained Deacon and his wife). 10. Study, reading and prayer time is over and above the minimum formal formation. 11. Wong Our Homebound Eucharistic Ministry needs additional ministers to assist in bringing Holy Communion to our elderly, sick, and disabled Sunday, June 17 parishioners.
