DAY 1 WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2017 ALBUQUERQUE - SANTA FE (D) We’ll begin our day with a morning departure from Marshall, Missouri to catch our flight to Albuquerque, New Mexico. The “Land of Enchantment” welcomes us as we arrive early this afternoon. Our Star Destinations Tour Manager will greet us at the airport before we depart via the Turquoise Trail. Named for the exquisite mineral that was once mined here, this scenic byway leads us to our first stop of the day, the real-life recovered ghost town of Madrid. Once home to three thousand miners and their families, Madrid is now a creative community with over forty shops and galleries, several restaurants, a spa, and a museum. After time to explore this relic of the past, we’ll continue on to the first state capitol in the United States, Santa Fe. Founded in 1609 and known as the “Royal City of the Holy Faith of Saint Francis,” Santa Fe offers many historic and scenic delights. After checking-in to our hotel, our group will gather for a special Welcome Dinner at La Casa Sena La Cantina, a wonderful local restaurant where we will dine in a historic adobe and the singing wait staff will entertain us with the best of Broadway, jazz and much more!

DAY 2 THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5 SANTA FE (B) After breakfast this morning, we will enjoy a wonderful tour of the Santa Fe Historic District. Santa Fe has been the seat of New Mexico’s government for more than 300 years and is rich in history. Our tour will include the Old Santa Fe Trail and the Palace of the Governors, which is the oldest continuously occupied public building in the United States. We will also visit Loretto Chapel, San Miguel Chapel, the Plaza, and more. The highlight of the Loretto Chapel is the Miraculous Staircase. The stairway confounds architects, engineers, and master craftsmen. It makes over two complete 360 degree turns, stands twenty feet tall, and has no center support. Made of an apparently extinct wood species, the staircase was constructed with only square wooden pegs without glue or nails. Legend has it that as the Sisters of the Chapel prayed to St. Joseph for an answer to their problem of reaching the choir loft, a man appeared with a tool box looking for work. It took months to complete the elegant staircase, after which the man disappeared without pay. Some concluded the man was St. Joseph himself, having come to answer the sisters’ prayers. Just a few blocks away is San Miguel Chapel, the oldest church in all of the continental United States. After finishing our tour, the rest of the day is ours to explore all the wonderful shops, art galleries, and restaurants this city has to offer!

DAY 3 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6 SANTA FE - TAOS - ALBUQUERQUE (B) Following breakfast, we’ll start our day with a picturesque drive along the Rio Grande River Valley. The spectacular views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains create the perfect backdrop for our arrival in the Indian village of Chimayo, where the descendants of Spanish weavers and woodcarvers still ply their crafts. We then continue on the high road to Taos, a town with a magical blend of Indian and Spanish cultures and the former home of frontiersman Kit Carson and novelist D.H. Lawrence. We will visit the Taos Pueblo UNESCO site, which has been a continuously inhabited Native American community for more than 1,000 years. We will also tour Taos’ historic Plaza, and enjoy free time to have lunch on our own and explore the shops and museums in this mecca of arts and culture. In the afternoon, we say goodbye to Taos and head south as we travel back to Albuquerque and check-in for a three night stay. The evening is ours to have dinner on our own.

DAY 4 SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7 ACOMA PUEBLO - AFTERGLOW (BLD) This morning offers a unique look at the lives of America’s first “apartment dwellers,” the Pueblo tribes of the Southwest! After breakfast we’ll board our motorcoach bound for a tour and lunch at Acoma Pueblo. The Native people at the Pueblo carry on the customary traditions of their ancestors through Native American pottery making and tribal celebrations, offering us a window into Native history. We will enjoy a guided tour of the Sky City Cultural Center followed by a visit to Haak’u Museum to view the exhibits, stunning Pueblo pottery, and Southwest Indian art created by renowned Native American artists. Afterwards, we return to Albuquerque to visit New Mexico’s famous Sandia Peak, home to the tram that will whisk us 10,680 feet into the air for an unsurpassed view from the summit. On a clear day, one can easily see the wonderful New Mexico landscape 100 miles around. After some time to relax, the group will gather and drive to Fiesta Field for the start of our Balloon Fiesta experience at the Chasers Club. We will enjoy a delicious buffet dinner before our evening feature, the Twilight Twinkle Glow™ and AfterGlow™ Fireworks Show. The Twilight Twinkle Glow begins when all the balloons fire their burners and light up at the same time. It is perhaps the single most spectacular moment in all of the Balloon Fiesta! The Twinkle Glow is followed by New Mexico’s most impressive fireworks display. Together, these are the Balloon Fiesta’s two most popular events. Balloon Fiesta Chimayo

DAY 5 SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8 ALBUQUERQUE BALLOON FIESTA (BD) Today we will learn why Albuquerque is called the “Balloon Capitol of the World.” We’ll depart for an early morning transfer to the Fiesta Field to watch the Dawn Patrol and have breakfast at the Chasers Club. The Dawn Patrol began at Balloon Fiesta in 1978 when two California pilots developed position lighting systems that allowed them to fly at night. Dawn Patrol pilots take off in the dark and fly until it is light enough to see landing sites. Just at dawn, when the winds are at their calmest, we will witness the mass ascension of balloons in a rainbow of colors at the world-famous Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Next on our agenda is a visit to the Turquoise Museum, where we will enter through a mock mine tunnel in which we can see the veins and nugget formations just as if we were miners. We will learn about rare specimens and the process of grinding and shaping the stones before enjoying free time to explore the gift shop. From the Turquoise Museum we journey on to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center for a tour. We’ll discover the history and art of the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico through displays of their artifacts and crafts, and learn a little about the cultural and religious customs that have helped preserve this society for more than 1,000 years. This evening our group will enjoy a Farewell Dinner and reminisce about our wonderful experiences!

DAY 6 MONDAY, OCTOBER 9 HOME (B) After enjoying breakfast at the hotel we will transfer to the Albuquerque Airport for our flight home.
