Educational Technology and Related Education Conferences for January to June 2015, Edition #32 Educational Technology and Related Education Conferences for January to June 2015, Edition #32 Prepared by Clayton R. Wright, crwr77 at gmail.com, November 12, 2014 The 32nd edition of the conference list covers selected events that primarily focus on the use of technology in educational settings and on teaching, learning, and educational administration. Only listings until June 2015 are complete as dates, locations, or Internet addresses (URLs) were not available for a number of events held from July 2015 onward. In order to protect the privacy of individuals, only URLs are used in the listing as this enables readers of the list to obtain event information without submitting their e-mail addresses to anyone. A significant challenge during the assembly of this list is incomplete or conflicting information on websites and the lack of a link between conference websites from one year to the next. An explanation for the content and format of the list can be found at http://newsletter.alt.ac.uk/2011/08/why- distribute-documents-in-ms-word-or-openoffice-for-an-international-audience/. A Word or an OpenOffice format is used to enable people with limited or high-cost Internet access to find a conference that is congruent with their interests or obtain conference abstracts or proceedings. Consider using the “Find” tool under Microsoft Word’s “Edit” tab or similar tab in OpenOffice to locate the name of a particular conference, association, city, or country. If you enter the country “Singapore” in the “Find” tool, all conferences that occur in Singapore will be highlighted. Or, enter the word “research” or “assessment”. (Note that key words such as “research”, “assessment” or “MOOCs” may not be present in the conference title, yet these topics could be discussed during a particular conference.) Then, “cut and paste” a list of suitable events for your colleagues. Please note that events, dates, titles, and locations may change and some events may be cancelled. Thus, CHECK the specific conference website not only for basic information, but to assure yourself that the conference is legitimate. Hobensack Olsen Associates, Inc. 4438 Herschel St. Jacksonville, FL 32210 ABSTRACT Nassau Sound is a broad, unstabilized tidal inlet located between Amelia Island and Little Talbot Island in Northeast Florida at the southern end of the Sea Island Chain. The Sound, along with Ft. George Inlet to the south, exist in a region demarcated and heavily influenced by substantial jetty installations at the Entrances to the St. Mary’s and St. John’s Rivers. Significant changes in the shape and position of the Sound have occurred over the last century, predominantly in response to the interruption of littoral supply caused by the St. Mary’s River Entrance jetties and the stabilizing influence of the north jetty at St. John’s River Entrance. In addition to the overall decrease in the sediment supply, another effect of these jettied entrances is the “backing up” of the tidal entrances as they attempt to migrate north against the direction of net littoral drift. These changes have placed increasing erosional pressure on the southern end of Amelia Island, prompting coastal engineering action to protect valuable resources along a State Park and adjacent privately held lands. There are currently five actively maintained ShEx implementations. We discuss how we use the JavaScript, Scala and Python implementa- tions in RDF data validation workflows in distinct, applied contexts. We present examples of how ShEx can be used to model and validate data from two different sources, the domain-specific Fast Healthcare Interop- erability Resources (FHIR) and the domain-generic Wikidata knowledge base, which is the linked database built and maintained by the Wikimedia Foundation as a sister project to Wikipedia.

The poster presentation is a commonly used format for communicating information within the academic scientific conference sector. Paper posters were the beginning but as technology and the way people work changes, posters have to be developed and implemented in order to achieve successful knowledge transfer. Incorporating aspects of information technology into poster presentations can promote an interactive learning environment for users and counter the current passive nature of poster design as an integrated approach with supplemental material is required to achieve changes in user knowledge, attitude and behaviour. After conducting literature review, research of existing e-poster providers, interviews with 5 of them and a personal evaluation in a real time conference environment results show a gradual turn towards e-posters with the medical sector pioneering. Authors, viewers and organisers embrace this new format, and the features and functions it offers, although objections exist since people have different preferences and the e-poster sector is relatively young, an average of 5 years.
