COUNCILLOR/CONSEILLE R RILEY BROCKINGTON

Riverside Park Community and Recreation Association April 3, 2019 Next: Beyond 2036 The Official Plan provides a vision for the future growth of the city and a policy framework to guide the city's physical development. In 2019, the City of Ottawa will begin a multi-year process to develop a new Official Plan. City Planning Committee recently approved a general timeline for a review of the City’s Official Plan during the current Term of Council, as required under the Planning Act. The new Official Plan will seek to address issues raised by the report, Ottawa Next: Beyond 2036 – a scenario study that looks beyond the current 20-year planning horizon to identify emerging trends, drivers of change and longer-term challenges that could have a physical, economic, or social impact on Ottawa. Ottawa Next will explore several future scenarios as a way to flesh out some of the planning considerations that will have a bearing on the new Official Plan. Those planning considerations will help inform discussion as the Official Plan is developed. The main themes that will be looked at include economic development, quality of life, environment, and urban form and mobility. There are a number of discussion papers that are currently available online for public consumption as a first wave of consultation at www.ottawa.ca. Residents are encouraged to share their feedback on the initial discussion papers by May 31.

Springland Drive Geotechnical Work Residents may have noticed some work taking place on the strip of land off Springland Drive between Holy Cross Parish and Holy Cross School this week. I have been advised that this work is related to some geotechnical soil sampling that is required for the proposed daycare facility for the site.

Canoe Bay Construction Timelines Update Canoe Bay representatives have advised that they are now tentatively targeting a construction start date of late-April 2019 to begin the site preparation and construction of the main complex. I will provide area residents and abutting neighbours with a detailed construction timeline once it is provided to my office.

New Park at 3071 Riverside Drive Thank you to all residents that attended my community open house and consultation to review the preliminary plans for the new park at 3071 Riverside Drive on the south side of the Canoe Bay development. The Park Planner is currently reviewing all the feedback and ideas received from area residents to see how they can be incorporated into a revised plan. Once a revised plan is developed I will host a second round of consultations.

Stage 2 Trillium Line Tree Removal - to Hunt Club Road On April 1, work began for the Stage 2 Trillium Line tree removal. The tree removal is required for the future expansion of the South Keys Transit/LRT station. In order to perform this work, a segment of pathway that connects South Keys Station to the Sawmill Creek MUP will close on April 1 and reopen on or before April 16. Access to South Keys Station will be maintained throughout tree www.RileyBrockington.ca | 613-580-2486 | [email protected] removal work via the pathway that extends from South Keys Station north to the Sawmill Creek MUP. Work will take place between 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday to Saturday. Pedestrian access to South Keys Station will be maintained throughout tree removal works with detour signage in place. A traffic control person will be on site to assist. The area around this section of Sawmill Creek has the land requirements to meet the 2:1 replacement criteria (City owns lands west of the alignment).

3930-3960 Riverside Drive Development Update On Thursday, March 28, the City’s Planning Committee approved the zoning amendment application for the proposed development at the northwest corner of Hunt Club and Riverside. I attended the committee meeting and spoke out against the development application noting the significant transportation and traffic concerns in the area. I also cited the HCCAs opposition to the application. The file will be considered by full City Council on April 10, 2019.

Norberry Residences Site Plan The owners of the Norberry Residences intend to build three new apartment buildings within the current complex, all fronting Norberry Crescent, one in the north-east corner and two facing south, which would include the demolition of the current covered parking garage with a complete replacement of a new parking garage. At this point in time, the site plan application has not been submitted by the applicant, however I anticipate a submission coming shortly. I intend to circulate a notice to neighbours when the site plan application is received by the City of Ottawa.

Hog’s Back Bridge Meeting I will be hosting a public meeting to discuss the anticipated construction and replacement for both the Hog’s Back Road swing bridge and fixed. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 13 at the Carleton Heights Community Centre, 1665 Apeldoorn Avenue and will begin with a brief open house at 6:30pm followed by a presentation and QandA. The NCC, Parks Canada, and the City’s Traffic branch will be on hand to answer questions from area residents. The project is coordinated and managed by both Parks Canada and the NCC who will be leading the presentation. I will also be communicating with OC Transpo officials to determine whether this project will have any impact on their operations. There will be significant traffic impacts coming so I invite residents to attend the meeting to learn more about the infrastructure project and temporary measures to permit pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
