Viticulture in Serbia According to Statistics and Viticulture Zoning
VITICULTURE IN SERBIA ACCORDING TO STATISTICS AND VITICULTURE ZONING Dragoslav Ivanišević, Darko Jakšić Apstract: After more than 50 years, the Census of Agriculture, conducted in 2012 by Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, collected data on present situation in agriculture and viticulture. At approximately the same time, after more than 40 years, new geographical zoning of viticulture production areas in Serbia was carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management. In Serbia, the area of about 25000 ha is under vine, out of which 22150 ha is in Central Serbia and Vojvodina. About 75.7% of total area is used for the production of wine grapes and 24.3 % is used for the production of table grapes. Viticulture zoning divides the territory of Serbia into three wine growing units which comprise 22 regions, 77 wine growing districts and a large number of wine growing oases. Advancement and planned development of viticulture can only be achieved if there is awareness of current state of area under vine, knowledge of assortment, seedling age, potentials of some wine making regions and other necessary conditions. Key words: viticulture, census, viticulture zoning Dragoslav Ivanišević, PhD, docent, University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Agriculture, Trg Dositeja Obradovića 8, 21000 Novi Sad, phone: 021 485 35 00, е-mail: [email protected] Darko Jakšić, MSc, graduated engineer, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Nemanjina 22-26, 11000 Belgrade, phone: 011 361 69 77, е-mail: [email protected] Introduction Viticulture in Serbia represents a very important branch of agriculture. -

2017 Maurer Orion Subotica, Serbia
2017 Maurer Orion Subotica, Serbia The Maurer family has been producing wine for four generations. It was during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in the 19th century that they moved from Salzburg to the southern part of the Kingdom of Hungary. They now farm 16 acres of land, including 6 acres in the Serbian wine region of Szabadka directly south of the Hungarian-Serbian border, and 10 acres in the Fruška Gora mountain district in Syrmia, Serbia, located 40 miles away from Belgrade and bordered by the Danube River to the north. VINEYARDS The vineyards are planted with old local varieties such as Mézes Fehér, Bakator, Szerémi Zöld. In the Szabadka wine region, vines are more than a hundred years old. The oldest Kadarka was planted in 1880 and is one of the oldest in the world. These vines are typically cultivated by horse and man power. The other part of the estate is in the historic region of Szerémség (Syrmia). Some ninety million years ago, the Fruška Gora mountain in Syrmia was an island in the Pannonian sea. The slopes of this old formation made up of volcanic and sedimentary rocks have been covered with vineyards, orchards and forests for about 3000 years. Today, this is an almost intact natural environment with an outstandingly rich ecosystem. The climate is sub-mediterranean and continental with a beneficial influence of the nearby Danube. One vineyard planted with Riesling is just 160 feet from the river. Maurer is the only winery producing natural wine in the region but fortunately, there is an increasing number of followers. -

The first documented record of S. nitidifrons from the Balkan Peninsula is provided, as well as keys for both males and females, lists of material examined and distribution maps for each Balkan Syrphus species. Syrphus torvus is new to Croatia. All the studied taxa are widespread throughout the Balkans, except S. nitidifrons, limited to a few mountain localities: Kopaonik Mountain (Serbia), Jahorina Mountain (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Durmitor Mountain (Montenegro). The need for conservation of S. nitidifrons is remarked. KEY WORDS: Syrphus nitidifrons, keys to species, first records, species distribution Introduction The genus Syrphus Fabricius, 1775 (Syrphinae: Syrphini) comprises medium-sized hoverflies with broad oval abdomen and calypter with hairs on the dorsal side. The larvae are predators of aphids (ROTHERAY, 1993). 92 Z. NEDELJKOVIĆ et al. The Palaearctic species of Syrphus were revised by GOELDLIN DE TIEFENAU (1996), who recognised a total of nine species including two new species and one subspecies: S. -
