“The current debate is being played out in the media as a partisan one, but historically, support for vaccines has been very nonpartisan. Major White House initiatives date as far back as Thomas Jefferson, who supported mass against smallpox. John F. Kennedy signed into law the first federal support program for vaccines as part of the Vaccine Assistance Act of 1962. President George H.W. Bush’s administration set a goal of 90 percent rates and led efforts to create model state plans which have become an integral part of the infrastructure serving every community. The Clinton administration’s Vaccines for Children program removed cost as a barrier to eligible families.”

Childhood Immunization Provides Big Savings Vaccines for Children: 23 years of protecting America’schildren

CDC estimates that vaccination of children born between 1994 and 2016 will: • Prevent 381 million illnesses • Prevent 24.5 million hospitalizations • Help avoid 855,000 early deaths • Save nearly $360 billion in direct costs and $1.65 trillion in total society costs • Every dollar spent in childhood vaccination ultimately saves $10.10.

Most children ARE vaccinated

• The number of children who do not receive at all is less than .08 percent.

Most parents want their communities to be fully vaccinated

• 59% of parents strongly agree and 22% agree that children in daycare should be vaccinated. • Most parents (66%) think they should be informed of the number of children not up-to-date on vaccines. • In a scenario where 1 in 4 children in daycare were not up-to-date, 74% would consider removing their own children.
