Area Partnership Profiles January 2013 (Version 1.1) Area 6: Willenhall & Short Heath Walsall Intelligence Network www.walsallobservatory.org.uk Introduction Area Partnerships were established in 2010 to bring together local people, the council and its partners—including local councillors, the Police, NHS Walsall, housing providers, community organisations and others—to work closely and effectively within local com‐ munities. There are six Area Partnerships across Walsall, each actively seeking the views of communities and partners to ensure that the needs of local people are being met. This is one of a set of core profiles for each of the Area Partnerships in Walsall. It is supplemented by a selection of more detailed profiles fo‐ cussing on particular themes. Source: ONS mid‐year estimates, 2010 (rounded However, there are slightly fewer people in the more ‘dependent’ age groups, with to nearest 100) lower proportions of children and older people and a correspondingly higher proportion of residents of working age (16‐64). Children aged 0‐15 account for less than a fifth (19.7%) of the resident population. However, the numbers in the 0‐4 age group are much closer to the Walsall average. Older people aged over 65 make up 16.1% of residents. But there is a peak of people in their 50s and early 60s, greater than in the borough as a whole. This pattern suggests that over the next decade there will be an increasing number of children, and more people will move into the 65+ ’older’ age bracket, resulting in the proportion of the Area’s working age population moving back into line with Walsall over‐ all. Male‐Female Ratio: Males Females 120 48.7% 51.3% The chart (left) shows the relative numbers 100 of males and females in the Area Partner‐ females ship compared with the Walsall borough 100 80 average. Overall, females account for just per over half of the population of the Area 60 (51%). However, this varies by age.
