@SCREEN ENGINE 2014 THE BOTTOM LINE

. This Huntington Beach, CA audience was as highly enthusiastic about The Wedding Ringer as previous test audiences (one on 5.8.2014 in Los Angeles, CA and one on 5.15.2014 in Culver City, CA), and positive evaluations of the film were well above general audience benchmarks. o Importantly, 7 in 10 moviegoers at this screening were Caucasian (compared to 15% on 5.15.2014 and 10% on 5.8.2014), indicating that the film has substantial “crossover” potential. o Additionally, ratings were consistently high regardless of age, gender or race, indicating broad playability. . The humor was the primary driver of satisfaction, and was the highest-rated element, but the relationship between Jimmy () and Doug () was also very well liked. . Kevin Hart was the top-most reason cited for attending the screening, and Jimmy was easily the highest-rated character, although Doug was also rated solidly above average. With the exception of Gretchen (played by ), who was rated at the norm for a secondary lead, the other characters were also rated comfortably above average. o Although Hart was the main draw to see the film, he was not as much of a draw as at the previous screenings, making this a more difficult recruit. o Also of note, fully three-quarters of those who attended said that they were fans of Hart beforehand, but the marketing materials will likely need to work against non-fans as well, in order to maximize crossover potential. . The ending resonated as being funny/hilarious and happy, and “excellent” ratings were twice the industry norm. The only complaint about the ending was that it was somewhat predictable, but moviegoers wouldn’t really have it any other way. . While the beginning was also rated above average, and was most likely to be described as “funny,” some felt that the pace was too slow, and that it took too long for Doug to find out about the agency and to reveal what a “wedding ringer” was. . There were also scattered comments that the pace moved too slowly in the middle (during the football game, selecting and training the groomsmen, the bachelor party), but otherwise perceptions that the pace moved too slowly were negligible. . In keeping with the well above average ratings of the film, willingness to “definitely” recommend it to friends was also solidly above average. Based on these results, it is anticipated that the film will enjoy exceptionally strong word-of-mouth across the board.

RECOMMENDATIONS BASED ON THIS RESEARCH . Given the extremely high playability of the film across all audience segments, no significant changes to the film are recommended. o There may be an opportunity to tighten the pace at the beginning, before Doug meets and hires Jimmy, but perceptions that the pace moved too slowly were not problematic at this screening. o Along those lines, considering the pace in the middle, there were scattered mentions that the following scenes moved too slowly: the football game, choosing and training the groomsmen, and the bachelor party. . Thinking about marketing the film, it is noteworthy that it was more difficult to recruit the mostly Caucasian audience at this screening than the mostly non-Caucasian audiences at the previews on 5.8.2014 and 5.15.2014, and the majority of the audience that resulted said that they were fans of Kevin Hart prior to attending. o This suggests that it will be important for the marketing materials to convert Caucasian moviegoers in order to maximize the “crossover” potential of the film. o To this end, reminding potential moviegoers of Cuoco’s success on TV’s The Big Bang Theory, and Gad’s success in voicing the snowman in Frozen, may be useful in specifically targeting Caucasians.

THE WEDDING RINGER Recruited Audience Preview #3 3 PLAYABILITY

Ratings

Following a third recruited audience screening of The Wedding Ringer, positive evaluations of the film were solidly above general audience benchmarks.

. Two-thirds (66%) rated the film “excellent,” more than twice the industry norm of 30%, and 9 in 10 (91%) rated it “excellent” or “very good,” compared with a benchmark of 65%. Ratings of the film were essentially on par with those from two earlier screenings, even though this Huntington Beach, CA audience was largely Caucasian (71%), and the previous audiences were mostly African-American (54%-60%).

Age & Gender: Positive evaluations of the film did not vary much with respect to age or gender, although “excellent” and “very good” combined scores were (somewhat) higher among males than females.

Race: Top box ratings were higher among non-Caucasians than Caucasians (74% vs. 62%), but they were well above average regardless of race, and top 2 box scores were the same among Caucasians and non-Caucasians.

Recommendations In keeping with the ratings, willingness to “definitely” recommend the film to friends was also well above average at 82%, compared with a norm of 50%. . “Definite” recommend scores were about the same with respect to age, but were (somewhat) higher among males than females, in part due to higher top 2 box scores among males, and in part due to a tendency for males to be more likely to say that they would “definitely” recommend the film than expected given their ratings. This is usually an indication that they will recommend a film broadly and/or without hesitation, and that particularly strong word-of- mouth can be counted on. . Willingness to “definitely” recommend the film was nearly as high among Caucasians as among non-Caucasians, in spite of lower “excellent” ratings among Caucasians. . “Definite” recommend scores were (slightly to somewhat) lower than at the two previous screenings of the film, but were nonetheless solidly above benchmark levels. Reasons for Not “Definitely” Recommending the Film: . It was predictable (4 mentions) . It is not for everyone (4 mentions)

THE WEDDING RINGER Recruited Audience Preview #3 4 . It was offensive (2 mentions) . I didn’t like the sexual content (2 mentions)

. The jokes were bad (2 mentions) . The comedy (2 mentions) Expectations

Having seen the film, 9 in 10 said that it was better than they expected and 1 in 10 said that it was about what they expected, and this is consistent with earlier findings. Satisfaction

Seven in ten (71%) said that they would have “definitely” been satisfied had they paid normal price to see the film at a movie theater, compared with 8 in 10 at the previous screenings, and another 2 in 10 said that that they would have “probably” been satisfied. . Perceptions that moviegoers would have “definitely” been satisfied were higher among males than females (77% vs. 66%), and also directionally higher among older moviegoers than younger (74% vs. 69%), due to females age 30+ being (somewhat) more likely than females under age 30 to say that they would have “definitely” been satisfied (71% vs. 62%). . They were also higher among non-Caucasians than Caucasians (80% vs. 68%). Among non-Caucasians, perceptions that they would have “definitely” been satisfied were as high as at the earlier screenings, where a majority of moviegoers were non-Caucasian.

Urgency

Half (49%) said that they would recommend seeing the film “in a theater opening weekend,” compared with 7 in 10 at the 5.15.2014 preview in Culver City. Another 3 in 10 (32%) said that they would recommend seeing it “in a theater within the first two weeks” of its release, and most of the remainder (14%) said that they would recommend seeing it “in a theater if they get a chance.” . Perceptions that these moviegoers would recommend seeing the film in a theater were (somewhat) higher among males than females (53% vs. 45%), but the same with respect to age. . They were also noticeably higher among non-Caucasians than Caucasians (61% vs. 44%).

THE WEDDING RINGER Recruited Audience Preview #3 10 MARKETING IMPLICATIONS

Primary Reasons for Attending

Kevin Hart: Hart continued to be the main draw, but he was less compelling to this audience than to the two previous test audiences. Half (49%) said he was the “primary” reason they attended, compared with 77% on 5.15.2014 and 82% on 5.8.2014. . Hart’s appeal was stronger among younger moviegoers than older (56% vs. 40%), and among older moviegoers, he was more likely to be mentioned by males age 30+ than females age 30+ (48% vs. 33%). Among older females, the genre/type of film, Kaley Cuoco, and the story/concept were nearly equal draws. . Likewise, younger moviegoers were more likely than older moviegoers to say that they considered themselves fans of Kevin Hart prior to attending the screening (85% vs. 65%), and among older moviegoers, older males were more likely to say that they were fans than older females (71% vs. 60%). The Genre/Type of Movie: Three in ten (29%) said that they attended because of the genre/type of movie, which was described as a “hilarious, new, R-rated comedy” in the recruiting materials. Females were nearly twice as likely as males to cite the genre/type of movie as their “primary” reason for attending. Other: . The story/concept (19%) . The cast overall (17%) o Kaley Cuoco (22%) o Josh Gad (12%)

THE WEDDING RINGER Recruited Audience Preview #3 11 Perceived Audience Appeal

Gender: Nearly 8 in 10 (77%) felt that the film would appeal to males and females equally, while 2 in 10 (18%) felt that it would appeal mostly to males, and this is consistent with previous findings.

Age: The "sweet spot" with respect to age was heavily perceived to be moviegoers in their 20s (67% agreed that they would "definitely" recommend the film to this age group), and moviegoers in their 30s (51%), with broader appeal extending to older teens (29%), and moviegoers in their 40s or older (28%). While there was little sense that the film would be targeted to younger teens (6%), 3 in 10 (27%) said that they felt that it would appeal to moviegoers of “all ages equally.” This is also consistent with previous findings.

THE WEDDING RINGER Recruited Audience Preview #3 12 THE RECRUIT

A third test screening of The Wedding Ringer was held on May 21st, 2014 in Huntington Beach, CA, with an audience that was mostly Caucasian. At the previous screenings, on 5.15.2014 and 5.8.2014, the audiences were almost exclusively non-Caucasian, and at least half of moviegoers were African-American.

For this recruit, 15 invitations were offered for every one moviegoer who attended. The previous screenings had final recruit ratios of 11:1 (5.15.2014) and 10:1 (5.8.2014).

Kevin Hart did not generate the same level of enthusiasm during this recruit as he did previiously, mainly due to lower awareness, but, ultimately, three-quarters of those that attended said that they considered themselves fans.
