With all of the comparisons to Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels, the Outlaws, and so forth, this solid, hardcore rockin' honky tonk duo and their amazing band is an entity unto themselves. Eddie Montgomery (brother of John Michael) and Troy Gentry are equal parts country music that comes from Merle Haggard, George Jones, Wynn Stewart, Dwight Yoakam, and even Hank Williams. At the same time, they play a scorching brand of rock & roll that has everything to do with the aforementioned heroes of the 1970s and the Allmans too because the blues are at the root of everything they do. This is an auspicious debut album, one that not only shows promise, but delivers the goods in the form of great songs written by a host of Nash Vegas' and Texas' finest -- if unknown new breed -- and absolutely tremendous performances. Check the hard rocking opener, "Hillbilly Shoes," with its flatpicking guitar intro supplanted by overdriven fiddles and screaming dual lead guitars. And "Trying to Survive" with its guitar, pedal steel, and piano fills is reminiscent of the feel, not sound, of Tucker's "Can't You See." It's easy to embrace Tim McGraw and a host of others who use rock & roll as way of framing their country music, but Montgomery Gentry don't use rock; they are a rock band who make country music, real country music. Check the gorgeous chorus on "Lonely and Gone" that is commenced with a heavy metal guitar intro only to become a gorgeous mid-tempo ballad.

Essentially there are 2 main things. If an item is under 20mm thick it goes as a large letter at a much cheaper rate to something over 20mm thick which is then classified as a parcel. This applies to both Australian and overseas Australia 1 cd $2 2cds $3 3/4/5 cds $8. The latter is up to 500grams and then individual areas are charged separately. If not in NSW it is usually cheaper to send anything over 500 grams in a prepaid satchel. It is $14 for a 3 cds satchel and you can get around 25 cds in one. That is in cases. Without cases you can get maybe 60-70 in a 3kg satchel. Overseas 1 cd or 2 cds is going to be $8 (cheaper for N.Z) and that is with cases. BUT 6 or so can go for $8 if you send without cases. Maximum weight is 250grams. Over 250 grams or thicker than 20mm it goes as a parcel BUT the good thing is the weight is 500 grams maximum. Box sets will be too probably too heavy. ---------------------------------------------------------- Extras/ lucky dip How about 50 cds for $50. They will be sent without cases in a 3kg satchel $14 or if in Sydney postal region $10. Good titles all as new and no dud labels. Can also add cds in at $1 each to make up to post maximum weight.

Kentucky natives Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry have written, produced and performed a unique blend of Traditional Country and Southern Rock music, rooted in God, country and family that identifies with hard working, blue-collar folks. With over twenty top 40 chart singles, five number 1 hits, certified gold and platinum albums, numerous CMA and ACM awards, and a Grammy nomination, this group has made an indelible mark on the country music industry. “Eddie” Montgomery, was born Gerald Edward Montgomery, on September 30, 1963, in Danville, Kentucky. By the age of 13, Eddie was playing full-time with the family band: Harold Montgomery and the Country River Express. Eddie developed his country style at a young age while playing the classic songs of Country Music legends, Hank Williams, Jr., Charlie Daniels, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. Eddie was also greatly influenced during this period of his life by listening to his favorite Southern Rock Group, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Troy Gentry was born April 5, 1967, in Lexington, Kentucky. Troy’s mother instilled the love of music in her son. She encouraged Troy to listen and learn from traditional country music legends, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Randy Travis and Hank Williams, Jr. In 1994, Troy’s talents were recognized on the national scene when he won the Jim Beam National Talent Contest – this recognition led to Troy touring on the road, opening for Patty Loveless and Tracy Byrd.

And as Country Aircheck spoke with programmers in all regions, the same refrain cameM back: It’s the music, stupid. Well, maybe not that bluntly, but the general idea was the same. Throw in a few network television star turns and some big album debuts and, suddenly, whispers of a new Country boom are becoming open conversation. Undeniably, something is happening in country music. Something good. Consultant Gerry McCracken, who until recently spent more than 14 years as Format Coordinator for Cox, sees the phenomenon on two levels. “Personally, I feel the music is much stronger, but my feelings really don’t play into it,” he says. “The research shows the music is stronger.” One of the best empirical arguments for this surge comes through analysis of current music percentages at Cox stations since 2009. In early September two years ago, WKHK/Richmond was 8% current. By late August 2011, it had doubled to 16%.
