Once a Freddie, Always a Freddie Superintendent’s Message August 27, 2021 New Kindergarten Class: This year, Fredericktown welcomed the Fredericktown Class of 2034. Welcome Freddies! Notifications of Student and Sta COVID-19 Diagnosis: If a student or sta member tests positive for COVID-19, an email will go out to all parents and sta notifying them that an individual has tested positive. The district or Knox Public Health will contact-trace the individual who tested positive and notify parents/sta by phone if there has been a close contact. If a quarantined student develops symptoms and is tested, please notify Mrs. Sheri, Mr. Garee, and Mr. Caputo. COVID-19 Data Dashboard: You can find positive and quarantine COVID-19 cases by building on our district dashboard located on the front page of our district website. We will attempt to update the dashboard around 2:00 PM every day that school is in session. Busing Guidelines for Face Masks: The CDC issued a legal order on January 29, 2021 requiring masks to be worn on all public transportation (including school buses). This order continues to apply regardless of whether or not individuals have been vaccinated. Therefore, in accordance with the CDC order, anyone riding on a school bus will wear a mask, unless they have a medical exemption. In addition, on July 27, 2021, the Ohio Department of Education and Ohio Department of Health issued COVID-19 Health and Prevention Guidance for Ohio K-12 schools that mandates all people that ride a school bus must wear a mask. On days we have high temperatures, we will be allowing five minute mask breaks on the bus. These will occur 10 minutes after leaving school grounds. Contact Tracing and Quarantine Protocol: Fredericktown is following the COVID-19 contract tracing and quarantine protocols laid out by the Ohio Department of Health. These are the current requirements for close contacts: If wearing a mask and vaccinated: - Individuals can safely remain in the normal in-person classroom setting and participate in extracurricular and sport activities as long as they have no symptoms. If no mask, but vaccinated, contact is to: - Wear a mask indoors either for 14 days or until they receive a negative viral (PCR or antigen) test performed 3-5 days after exposure. - Vaccinated individuals can remain in the normal in-person classroom setting and participate in extracurricular and sport activities as long as they have no symptoms. - If they test positive, they must be isolated for at least 10 days from the date of the positive test. If no mask and not vaccinated, contact is to: - Follow normal quarantine procedures, as outlined below. - They shall not attend in-person school. They shall not participate in sports or extracurricular activities. - They can return to normal classroom and extracurricular activities after 7 days if they have received a negative viral (PCR or antigen) test that was performed at least 5 days after exposure. - If they test positive, they must be isolated for at least 10 days from the date of the positive test. - If they do not choose to have a viral (PCR or antigen) test they must be quarantined for 10 days, and may return to school and extracurricular and sports activities on day 11 after exposure. Band Cedar Point: On Saturday, August 14th, the FHS Marching Band performed in a parade around the Midway at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. This summer, Cedar Point is celebrating its 150 year anniversary. The students each received a commemorative pin for their participation in the parade. The 2021 FHS Marching Band is under the direction of Katie Metz and Jessica Overholt. Thank you to the Fredericktown Music Boosters, parent chaperones, bus drivers, and the Fredericktown administration for making this trip possible! Scholarship Fund: We are ordering district shirts to wear with jeans or khakis every Monday. If you would like to participate, please place your weekly $1.00 in the container (coming soon) near the sta mailboxes. The money collected will go toward one yearly district scholarship for a senior. A district scholarship committee will be 2 developed to establish guidelines and selection of the scholarship recipient. If you would like to be on the committee, please let Susan know. 1st Grade Coloring: Last week, 1st graders were so excited to support our Freddies! These first graders are sure that their coloring and good luck messages will help their Freddies on the field! Go Freddies!! ARP ESSER Plan: See the attached document for the district’s plan for its use of ARP ESSER funds. New Student Resource Ocer: This year, Fredericktown has welcomed a new school resource ocer. Ptl. Wade Duston is a lifelong resident of Knox County and attended high school at East Knox where he was involved with multiple sports to include basketball, football, and track. Wade received his law enforcement and criminal justice education from Central Ohio Technical College. During his graduation from Police Academy, Ptl. Duston received recognition by receiving one of the most coveted awards issued by COTC, The Thomas Cottrell Award. The recipient of this award is selected based upon the individual’s academic success, leadership, and character. During his law enforcement career, Ptl. Duston has discovered that his niche is working with individuals that are experiencing a mental health crisis. He has a soothing demeanor and is able to de-escalate these situations so that these individuals can receive the mental health treatment that they need. When asked about fulfilling the role of a school resource ocer, Ptl. Duston replied that he is, “Very excited to begin this new role as a School Resource Ocer and I look forward to becoming an integral part of the Fredericktown Schools community.” 2 Hour Delay: Just a reminder that the district has a 2 Hour Delay scheduled for September 15, 2021 and October 19, 2021 for sta professional development.
