B. NUTRITION WEEK The School of Home Economics will hold its Tenth Annual Ob­ servance of Nutrition Week on December 1-3. "Dimensions in Nutrition"—Space Nutrition, International Nutrition, and the Anti-Poverty Program, has been selected as the theme for this year. The principal speaker for the occasion is Dr. Annabelle Spann Sherman, on leave from her position as Asso­ ciate Dean of the School of Agriculture and Home Economics, South Carolina State College.

C. STAFF MEETING The regular monthly Workers' Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening, December 2 at 7:30 o'clock m the Administration Audi- torium. Newsletter Page 2 December, 1964

D. PUBLIC HEALTH PROGRAM The Waller County Public Health Association will hold a Christmas Gift Auction for Health on December 3, between the hours of 4:00-6:00 p.m. Educational films and activities of the Clinic will also be observed during this program scheduled in the Public Health Building. E. "Y" LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE The Annual "Y" Leadership Training Conference will be held on the campus on December 4,5 and 6. The theme of the Conference is—"The Responsibility of Student Leaders in Helping to Im­ prove Academic Performance." Special visiting speakers for the occasion include Dr. Horace Mann Bond, Dean of the School of Education, Atlanta Universi­ ty and Dr. Walter Kerr, National Youth Foundation Director.

F. BOY SCOUTS DINNER The E. B. Evans' Division, David Crockett District, will hold its Annual Appreciation Dinner on December 9 in the Ballroom of the Memorial Center. All persons active or interested in Boy Scout Work are invited to attend. The E. B. Evans' Di­ vision includes communities in Austin, Burleson, Waller, and Washington Counties. G. FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Congratulations are extended to the team and coaches on win­ ning the Southwestern Conference Football Championship for the second consecutive year. While the team is unable to play in a post-season game this year, it appears fairly certain that they will also annex the 1964 National Negro College Football Championship—also for the second straight year.

H. BASKETBALL SEASON The 1964-65 basketball season will get under way December 1 when the Panthers meet Langston University in the new gym­ nasium. An important preliminary game is scheduled the same evening between Wheatley and Worthing High Schools of Houston. Newsletter Page 3 December, 1961

For many years residents of the college have followed the custom of putting up displays about the homes, dormitories, and public buildings in keeping with the spirit of Christmas. This activity is sponsored by the Prairie View Garden Club and is termed—"Christmas Brighten-Up." It is our hope that we can follow the same practice this year and that decorations will be made sufficiently early for stu­ dents to see them before leaving for the holidays, December 19 For further information, contact any member of the Prairie View Garden Club or call Mrs. L. CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS The Christmas Holidays will begin at noon, December 19. Classes will resume at 8:00 a. m. on January 1, 1965. The holiday period for regular twelve-month employees is Decem­ ber 23 through January 1 (Wednesday through Friday the following week).
