Globe Life Field shared hosting duties for the 2020 National League Division Series with Minute Maid Park in Houston Oct. 6 through Oct. 8. Globe Life Field then went on to host the National League Championship Series from Oct. 12 through Oct. 18. The NLCS was the first time that MLB allowed fans to watch games in person during the coronavirus pandemic, which also made it the first time that fans were able to attend games at the Rangers’ new home. 2020 World series Globe Life Field is a world-class venue 5 RANGERS PLAY INAUGURAL SEASON 6 The Rangers played its inaugural season at Globe Life Field without any fans in the seats because of COVID-19 concerns. With Opening Day delayed nearly four months because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Rangers played its first regular season home game in the 40,000-seat ballpark July 24 against the Colorado Rockies. Gov. Greg Abbott threw out the ceremonial first pitch via video from in front of the State Capitol in Austin, while Country Music Hall of Fame singer Charley Pride performed the Star Spangled Banner live. In a clever way to fill the empty seats behind home plate and the dugouts, the Rangers allowed fans to submit photographs to be turned into a two-dimensional cardboard likeness for the home opener and subsequent home games. More than 2,700 DoppelRangers were sold for $50 each for the first game, with proceeds benefiting the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. During the shortened Major League Baseball season, the Rangers played 60 games, including 30 at home. Because of the pandemic, most fans got their look inside the retractable-roof, climate- controlled ballpark and all that it offers through televised games or scheduled tours. A young man is deemed invaluable and exalted by the public. The hero is cast into the spotlight and bestowed with insurmountable expectations. But the acclamations and pressures are burdensome and the invented savior fails to fulfill the prospects once imagined by the public. He is cast aside, disregarded as a symbol of failure or one deserving of pity. It’s the quintessential tragedy of a fallen hero. The protagonist of this report is Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg, who enjoyed a phenomenal rookie season before it ended abruptly due to a severe elbow injury.

Schmalenberger ABSTRACT Stylistic Evolution of Jazz Drummer Ed Blackwell: The Cultural Intersection of New Orleans and West Africa David J. Schmalenberger The two primary functions of a jazz drummer are to maintain a consistent pulse and to support the soloists within the musical group. Throughout the twentieth century, jazz drummers have found creative ways to fulfill or challenge these roles. In the case of Bebop, for example, pioneers Kenny Clarke and Max Roach forged a new drumming style in the 1940’s that was markedly more independent technically, as well as more lyrical in both time-keeping and soloing. The stylistic innovations of Clarke and Roach also helped foster a new attitude: the acceptance of drummers as thoughtful, sensitive musical artists. These developments paved the way for the next generation of jazz drummers, one that would further challenge conventional musical roles in the post-Hard Bop era. One of Max Roach’s most faithful disciples was the New Orleans-born drummer Edward Joseph “Boogie” Blackwell (1929-1992). Ed Blackwell’s playing style at the beginning of his career in the late 1940’s was predominantly influenced by Bebop and the drumming vocabulary of Max Roach.
