23 Trials and Selection

When Does the Process Start?

• Once nominations have closed for your sport, trials will take place (May / June 2020)

• Your team manager will ensure that trials are FAIR, OPEN & TRANSPARENT

• The regional manager will ensure that all policies and by-laws are adhered to

• Your team’s coach and two independent selectors will conduct the trials and select the team

24 Team Selection Trials

1. Trials will be held in either NSW or VIC 2. A date & venue will be communicated 3. All those that travel will be billeted 4. The costs of trials will be advised and must be paid by all nominees 5. Two independent selectors will be appointed by the Maccabiah Executive with the coach being one selector with one vote.

• How they are chosen? • Your Coach and Team Manager look for two selectors that are truly independent

• Their role • To rank players based on their performance at trials, provide detailed notes on their rationale for selection or non-selection in accordance with the policies, by laws and selection criteria

26 How Trials Work

1. Your team manager will arrange travel, billeting & transport 2. If Juniors, a chaperone is arranged for flights Snacks & Water will be provided 3. Trials are closed to parents 4. Trials may run over a couple of sessions and/or one or two days

27 Can you trial for more than one sport?

• Yes, it is possible to trial for more than one sport • Complete nomination form appropriately • The team managers for each sport will work together to endeavor to ensure that no trials clash

28 After Selection Trials

• The successful athletes will be ratified by the executive

• The Nominees will be notified by the team manager

29 Unable to attend trials

• Refer to policies on the website relating to Team Selection By-Laws

• Ensure you notify your team manager

• Medical reasons require a doctor’s certificate

• The By-Laws govern all aspects of trials, including: • What if you / your child can’t attend the trial? • What if you / your child is sick on the day?

49 Nomination & Instalments Process

Nomination Fee o The athlete must pay the nomination fee of $1000. Payments via credit card and PayPal (excludes merchant fee). o If at a later stage they wish to ASF the full amount, the nomination fee can be refunded to the same credit card or PayPal account (excluding the merchant fee). o Nomination fee is refundable (in the same method it was paid) if athlete is not successful in making the team. o Nomination fee is non-refundable if the athlete is selected and then withdraws, unless special circumstances apply. o An invoice will be created by RevSport for the balance of the full amount, including any team levies but excluding the nomination fee (already received). Instalments • 4 Instalment payments will be as follows: March 2020, July 2020, November 2020, April 2021. 51 Funding Methods

Funding Method - Australian Sports Foundation(ASF) - ASF Portal Link • MAI is not a registered tax-deductible organisation • ASF was set up by Australian Government to promote international and domestic sport • MAI is accredited with ASF for its ‘Project of funding location and international sport for the Jewish Community’ • This is a tax-deductible donation for the donor. • The donor can donate to a specific team (e.g. Masters Golf Team, Open Golf Team etc..) • A donor form must be completed by either the Team Manager or Athlete and emailed to [email protected] for the purpose of allocating of the funds accordingly. • Donors can not be relatives of members of the team (ATO modified ruling since 2017 Maccabiah). • Please note that there is a 5% ASF fee, which must be paid by the donor. They will effectively need to pay more than the outstanding invoice to cover this cost. Furthermore, if ASF is paid by credit card a merchant fee of 1% for VISA and Mastercard and 2% for AMEX. • Refer to calculation in comparison table to follow • The donor must always tick this box to cover the processing fee, otherwise the final amount will have a short fall / outstanding amount. 52 Funding Methods

On the day: • Athletes can come anytime between 7am and 5pm on the day! • Only need to be in the pool for 30 to 60 min on the day! • For all levels of swimmers…..swim at your own pace! • Swim with your teammates, family & friends…..very social! • MS is a great cause to raise funds for while exercising!

• Require: • Valid passport with 6 months to expiry date • Visa if required. Not needed for Aus passport holders • Israeli Citizens (even if travelling on another passport) of military age will require a military exemption letter, from the Israeli Embassy in Canberra • Team flight means - Israel return with the Team on a ticket purchased through Maccabi Australia • Booking through Goldman Travel is the only way to access the ASF for travel • Team members not on Team flight will receive a credit, the amount will be confirmed • Option to upgrade to a business class subject to an additional cost and availability - can use ASF • Can’t use ASF for additional travel
