Senior Society is an end-of-the-year program, where students are asked to perform​ service with or agencies that assist people in need​. There are no grades or homework assignments attached to this program, other than reflective journal writing. Students who apply for this privilege are required to prove they are students in good standing in relationship to grades, fines, attendance, and discipline records. Students should not engage in anything that is hazardous to their health and well-being in connection with their daily assignments. Please note, students in this program will: ● Receive NO compensation for their hours. (minimum of 5 hours a day) ● Be responsible for their own transportation. ● Keep a daily log of attendance and journal at work site at all . ● Be subject to on-site visits from SBHS staff. ● Be removed from program for poor attendance, poor work ethic, and/or insubordination, outstanding academic or financial obligations to SBHS. ● Choose an in- placement; placements outside of a 20 mile radius MUST be approved on a case by case basis. Application Process

Join the Senior Society Google Classroom (Code - ​r3f3tuu​) ​and complete the ​Google Form Application​; you will be required to upload pdf files of the following documents on the by May 6th 2019.

● Copy of current class grades from Genesis (70% in Qrts 2, 3, 4). You will post this to the assignment in the ​Google Classroom between April 29th - May 6th ● Completed Sponsor Agreement (Limit on High School Placements, no placements with family members). ​You will upload this in your application. Addtionally:

● We will check your grades, discipline, attendance, and fine records which includes Textbooks, ID, athletics, library and Chartwell’s. ​All fines must be paid​. You must have proof that all obligations were met in order to participate

● th​ You will be notified by May 20​ if you are accepted ● Appeals will only be accepted if you can provide new information. All appeals will be reviewed May 21-22

● Rules, if accepted: 1. Students should know that their placement can be revoked for a variety of reasons, including, but not limited to, discipline issues, a drop in grades, overdue fines, etc. 2. Students are subject to on- site visits by staff, and must have their journal with them at all times 3. Incomplete applications will not be considered

Senior Society 2019

Service

▪ Senior Society will run from ​June 10th through June 21st 2019 ▪ Participants will devote a minimum of 5 hours per school day (7:30am-4:00pm) with no financial compensation

▪ Participants will look to work in either a community service or career exploration setting where your talents can be utilized. If you choose to work in one of our schools, you MUST have the principal or designee sign the sponsor agreement

Responsibility

▪ Maintain a 70% in all classes in quarters 2, 3, and 4

▪ Seniors on track to graduate

▪ No suspensions in 2018-2019

▪ Good attendance – no more than ​12 unexcused absences​ in a single class or daily attendance ▪ Excessive tardies to any class

▪ No outstanding financial obligations due to the school with library, Chartwells, Athletic Dept, textbooks, or ID cards

▪ Keep a Senior Society journal which includes a daily record of hours worked. Also, one paragraph ​summarizing​ and ​reflecting on​ the day’s experiences ▪ Students who fail to meet the expectations may lose the privilege of participating in the graduation ceremony on June 26, 2019

▪ The application will open on Friday, April 26, 2019. It can be found in the Senior Society Google Classroom Code - ​r3f3tuu ▪ Applications are due May 6, 2019​ - all items must be posted on Google Classroom Honesty

▪ Journals must be kept with you at all times and available for unannounced site visits from staff

▪ Secure a placement outside the building in an approved for community service or career exploration -- ​No placements can be in an existing job or with family members Respect

▪ Report to placement on , and notify sponsor if you are going to be late or absent

▪ Dress and act appropriately, including carrying out the activities which have been assigned to you

▪ When looking for a placement, consider organizations focused on the needs of others

▪ At the conclusion of your assignment, thank your mentor for the opportunity
