Dear Parishioners, “The community of believers was of one heart and mind” The season of Lent is all about our need for conversion. The goal is to prepare ourselves for Easter by becoming a more authentic Christian. The season of Easter is all about the renewal of the community of faith as we approach the Feast of Pentecost. The pandemic has placed special challenges on deepening the bonds of community when our opportunities to be together have been so affected by COVID protocols. This past year I have marveled at the ways people have creatively found ways to keep growing as a community of faith. This weekend’s first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, describes a vision of how we should be as a community. We must strive for unity and avoid those who seek to divide. They have no place in the Easter community established by the Risen Christ. The community of believers was “of one Jerry Boland, Pastor mind and heart”. One of the great learnings for me has been the importance of community, spiritually and emotionally. Thoughts on the I suppose sometimes it takes the absence of some things to really appreciate how important some things are. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. There will be a special Novena to St. Catherine of Siena in Vicariate II from April 20-28. This novena will seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit in healing and atonement for the clergy sex abuse crises. OLPH will be hosting the Novena on Tuesday, April 27 at 7:00 p.m. I will be presiding, and Bishop Bartosic will be present. There will be more information about the novena and the parishes hosting in the bulletin and on the web site. We have a busy Easter Season with First Communions, Confirmations and Graduations. Can’t wait! May your week be blessed, Fr. Jerry Boland

April 11, 2021 • olphglenview.org 5 seek, share, rejoice - olph easter celebration 2021...

Our Easter weekend Arts & Environment Ministry was packed with wonderful events and liturgies all weekend long.

But before the celebrations could begin, our Arts & Environment Minstry team, led by Sally Corbett had to get to work to bring the beauty of the Arts & Environment Ministry team: Back row: Zoe Sundstrom (and season to the entire her daughters, Heather and Sierra Sundstrom), Fran Fiorentino, OLPH campus. Fr. Jerry, Ginger Bradley, Tracey Moore, Dawn Ludden Front row: Tricia McLeod, Mary Beth Fellinger, Sally Corbett, Jean & Bernie Grothaus On Saturday morning we held one of our most popular Easter events: Swieconka, or The Blessing of the Easter Foods. We were unable to have Swieconka last year because of COVID restrictions and we Swieconka were concerned that not many people would come this year. Boy, were we wrong!

Over one hundred carloads of people attended, keeping our deacons Jim Revord and Christopher Weiland busy the entire time. Some stayed in their cars for the blessing while others took advantage of the beautiful weather to receive the blessing in person.

6 April 11, 2021 • olphglenview.org seek, share, rejoice - olph easter celebration 2021...

Our Saturday Easter Easter Vigil Vigil was celebrated as a Drive-in Mass, Mass in church, and Mass in the Playdium. The Drive-in Mass was at full capacity (as usual). Fr. Boland once again was able to preside over the ceremony outside on the Parish Center Balcony. Fr.Basbas led the vigil in the church that included RCIA catechumens receiving the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Easter Sunrise Mass Eucharist. Easter Sunday began with a beautiful Sunrise Mass on the Rectory lawn with Fr. Boland and cantor Gabriella Barretto. It was a wonderful way to start the day that included 13 separate Masses utilizing the church, the Rectory lawn, the Playdium, and McDonnell Hall.
