IMPACT OF SPORTS PREMIUM

At Great Coates Primary school P.E is valued in the same way as core academic subjects. The school sports premium enables us to employ a full time PE specialist and we believe this is key for our children to develop a life-long passion for physical activity and as a consequence help to reduce future levels of obesity. P.E is also regarded as helping to increase academic attainment and improving behaviour and is a subject widely enjoyed by all of our children.

COMPETITIONS, EVENTS & FESTIVALS

Competitive sport and sporting festivals form an integral part of sporting life at Great Coates Primary whether it is through termly intra sport competition or through the inter school sports provided by PSSP. We also affiliate to the Schools Football Association which allows us to compete in & District schools football competitions. Our school places a huge emphasis on fair play, good sportsmanship and respect, all qualities that competitive sport can allow to develop. Competition also teaches our children to tackle life with gusto.

OLYMPIC THEMED SPORTS WEEK

In June we held a full week of sporting activities that took over the whole school timetable. It followed an Olympic theme with an opening and closing ceremony which saw performances from many of our children.

During the week we had many sports specialists come in to school to provide our children with the opportunity to try new sports. The children also went out to other schools to compete or to take part in festivals as well as visiting local sports facilities.

We had a whole day dedicated to disability awareness with our year 6 children visiting Cambridge Park Academy to participate in a morning of sports activities alongside their children. Our children experienced many different disability sports such as wheelchair basketball, blind football, guided running, boccia and new age kurling. We also had 2 local disabled athletes come in to talk about their sporting achievements before engaging in sporting activities with the children.

2015 2016 SPORTS AMBASSADORS

4 children from year 5 and 6 that exhibited potential leadership qualities and a love of sport and physical activity were chosen to receive Sports Ambassador training. This gave them the opportunity to learn and practice their leadership skills in order to promote sport, physical activity and health across the school and wider community. These children actively help to deliver physical education lessons to KS1 children as well as helping to plan and deliver school sports days, sports week, extra-curricular clubs as well as being physical activity advocates.

SPORTS AMBASSADORS

My favourite part of being a sports ambassador was helping to organise sports week. It was really good choosing what everyone would be doing. L.M.R

I liked being able to help the little children to do their P.E lessons. They are really good. S.S
