Follow the bend downhill; you will see a pelican crossing. Dunelm House, the home to Durham Students’ Union 26 is located on the junction. Feel free to call in and have a look around the Students’ Union or visit the Riverside Café on the ground floor, which boasts spectacular views across the River Wear and a great tasting cup of coffee. Continuing down New Elvet from Dunelm House you will pass DURHAM some of the University’s facilities and lecture theatres on the left hand side. These buildings, known as Elvet Riverside buildings 1 and 2 25 , are also home to Liberal Arts, Combined Honours in CITY Social Sciences and the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. Follow the road downhill where you will see the Sport Centre on the left hand side. It takes approximately 15 minutes to walk from Lower Mountjoy to the Sport Centre. Graham Sport Centre PALACE GREEN The ancient Market Place (grid reference D2/3) is a bustling hive of activity. From here to reach Palace Green head up Saddler Street, following the signs to the Cathedral and Castle. Where the road forks, turn right and follow the hill upwards. To the left is the Cathedral, and to your right is the Castle, which, as well as being a popular tourist attraction, also houses University College 23 . The Castle is open to visitors 10:00-17:00 by guided tour only.
