I'm not sure what I expected going into this, but I was really surprised by this. It came out to be some kind of crazy splice of the X-Men if they never really teamed up and Psycho Bustersmixed with a bit of Durarara!! As with Psycho Busters and Durarara, the strength of this first volume er, first two volumes? They aren't what you expect. Azuma seems like a super goofy character at first who's read too many super hero comics, but as yo I'm not sure what I expected going Volume 1: Volume 1 this, but I was really surprised by this. Azuma seems like a super goofy character at first who's read too many super hero comics, but as you learn more about him, you find he's not so easily summed up. You'd think that Rinka is just a poor, cute girl who's going to end up naked a lot from the first few pages, but that couldn't be farther from the truth and it turns out, she's the far more useful of the two in their super hero team. What starts out as a goofy "kids with super powers try to save the day" gets super serious fairly quickly, but Volume 1: Volume 1 still keeps its quirky humor throughout to balance the drama. I was impressed, and I will definitely continue reading. I suggest you give this crazy mash up a try. View 1 comment. Sep 26, Sesana rated it liked it Shelves: comicsfantasy. A fairly standard power fantasy manga, with fairly standard art. The story is probably a little more weird than average: characters get powers when spectral flying fish swim Volume 1: Volume 1 them. There's also a Volume 1: Volume 1 penguin. The art flirted with upskirt panels way more than I like. There's no particular reason for the female characters to run around in short skirts when they have reason to expect combat situations. Except, of course, fanservice. I had gotten this first volume of Tokyo ESP as a review copy from Vertical last year, and I had started to read it then to determine if Volume 1: Volume 1 might want to discuss it on the manga Volume 1: Volume 1 series. We didn't, primarily because there were other titles we had preferred covering, so I put this aside for awhile. I just recently picked it back up, and I like it better going through it this time. The premise, while fantastical, isn't anything special, and the art doesn't entirely stand out for me. I'm not I had gotten this first volume of Tokyo ESP as a review copy from Vertical last year, and I had started to read it then to determine if we might want to discuss it on the manga podcast series. I'm not sure if the term "generic manga art" is appropriate here, but that's a phrase that comes to me when trying to put my finger on Segawa's style. But there's enough going on in this story to have me reading it until the end of the volume. I'm not sure if I'll go on to read subsequent installments, but I did enjoy this first go 'round. I dived into this series not knowing what to expect, but by the end of the first volume, I must say that the series looks like it has some great potential. This series introduces the reader to Rinka, a regular girl, or was regular until she is touched by a strange glowing fish in the middle of the city. When she wakes up falling through her apartment floor, she knows something is a bit different about her, and she's not the only one. A bunch of people in Tokyo who have touched the glowing fish h I dived into this series not knowing what to expect, but by the end of the first volume, I must say that the series looks like it has some great potential. A bunch of people in Tokyo who have touched the glowing fish have suddenly gained different forms of ESP powers, and not everyone has good intentions. And what's up with the penguin? It can take ESP Volume 1: Volume 1, problem solved! This seems like a very action-packed series with Volume 1: Volume 1 art. The American release versions come as 2-in-1 compilations, which is nice, making up a total of 8 volumes in America, 16 in Japan. I would recommend this for the die-hard anime fans as well as those who are into the super hero genre. Jan 19, Stacie rated it really liked it Shelves: 2-graphic-novels-manga. That one. We follow a young girl who ends up with the power to phase Volume 1: Volume 1 solid objects. Mix that up with an eccentric boy trying to fight crime, a penguin sidekick, and a handful of kooky villains and I'd say you're in for a treat. This was highly entertaining. On top of the intersting premise and wacky characters, the art is also cool as hell. The action pa 4. The action panels in particular read smoothly and make this a page-turner. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a weird twist on the superhero genre. May 15, Hannah rated it it was amazing. I do believe this is somewhere between my th time reading through this manga and it never gets old. The art is great, the storyline engaging, and the characters dynamic. It is fantastic and I highly recommend it! Apr 05, Erica rated it it was amazing. Omg I loved this manga. First I would like to say the artwork is stellar. The main characters are so great, I truly adore them. The plot is fast paced and action packed. ESP extra sensory perception is such a cool concept and executed very well. Aug 16, Luisa rated it it was amazing. Tokyo Esp is a action packed, comedic and page turning manga for anyone who loves a good superhero story. I adore Rinka and Azuma as dynamic team duo partners. It's no lie that there's something between them and Tokyo ESP their relationship grows, we get to see more about them. The artwork and storyline is fantastic. Best action manga yet.
