Before the creation of Metro Commission, the towns of Muntinlupa, and Pateros were on the premier of the province of . With the creation of the Commission, a presidential decree of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, the three towns were integrated into the to which Muntinlupa, Taguig and Pateros were attached with the Division of City Schools, City.

A re - divisioning scheme of the DepEd – NCR was conceived in the early part of 1993 as an innovative strategy to achieve efficiency in the delivery of basic educational services to the pupils and students of Metro Manila. Consequently, the NCR Fourth District composed of the City of Pasay and integrated of , Paranaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Taguig, Pateros was divided into new School Divisions. Division of Muntinlupa, Taguig and Pateros also known as MUNTAPAT was created.

The new Division of MUNTAPAT, which started to operate June 01, 1994 at , Muntinlupa City was given its official status by virtue of inauguration on September 26, 1994 headed by Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Teofista Vibar. After her retirement, she was succeeded by Dr. Aquilina Rivas.

In 1996, Ignacio “Toting” R. Bunye of Muntinlupa initiated a resolution through the to separate Muntinlupa from Taguig and Pateros, to become a single Division.

On August 09, 1996, an Unnumbered Memorandum addressed to Regional Director Nilo L. Rosas was signed by then DECS Secretary Ricardo T. Gloria which separated Muntinlupa City from the other two municipalities, thus creating the Division of City Schools, Muntinlupa City.

On August 19, 1996, Dr. Alma Bella O. Bautista assumed her duties as the Office-In-Charge of the Division and subsequently became its first City Schools Division Superintendent. On September 27, 2001, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Mrs. Fe L. Faz acted as the Officer-In-Charge of the Division. On June 5, 2002, the Division welcomed Dr. Aurora P. Gervacio as the new Schools Division Superintendent.

After Dr. Aurora P. Gervacio retired, Mrs. Fe L. Faz assumed her duties as Officer-In-Charge of this Division then became the Schools Division Superintendent from October 16, 2003 to January 19, 2010. On September 15, 2004, the Division warmly welcomed Mr. Dominico C. Idanan as the new Assistant Schools Division Superintendent. Upon Dr. Faz’ retirement in January 20, 2010, Dr. Dominico C. Idanan assumed as the Officer-in-Charge and lasted up to November 4, 2012.

On November 5, 2012, the Division of Muntinlupa welcomed Mrs. Priscila C. De Sagun as the Schools Division Superintendent - Officer-in-Charge, and later on promoted as the 6th full-fledged Schools Division Superintendent on January 4, 2013. She remained as Divisional Head until January 8, 2015.

From January 2015 up to October 2019, Dr. Mauro C. De Gulan served as the Schools Division Superintendent of SDO-Muntinlupa.

On the same year, Dr. Dominico C. Idanan came back home to lead the entire Division in attaining the goal of making S.M.A.R.T. Schools in Muntinlupa City.

The City claims a total land area of 3,970 hectares based on a map citing creation of Presidential Decree No. 824 dated November 7, 1978 upon the formation of Metro Manila as the National Capital Region of the Philippines.

Land area was based on cadastral survey (certified and provided to the DBM) from the LMB, DENR, as of 2010 – as used by NSO, 2010 Census. DEMOGRAPHICS:

Mandate The Department of Education (DepEd) – Schools Division Office (SDO) Muntinlupa City formulates, implements, and coordinates policies, plans, programs and projects in the areas of formal and non-formal basic education. It supervises all elementary and secondary education institutions, including alternative learning systems, both public and private; and provides for the establishment and maintenance of a complete adequate, and integrated system of basic education relevant to the goals of national development. It follows the rationalized organizational structure as mandated in DepEd Order No. 52, s. 2015. Clientele DepEd SDO Muntinlupa’s clients include school principals and administrators of both public and private basic education schools (Kinder to Senior High Schools), local government units, public and private organizations which have stake in education. Division and School Facilities The building of DepEd SDO Muntinlupa is located at Laguerta Street, Bgy. Tunasan, Muntinlupa City. The four-storey building houses the offices of the Schools Division Superintendent, Curriculum Implementation Division (CID), and School Governance and Operations Division (SGOD). The SDO building can withstand 8.2 magnitude earthquake and it is equipped with state-of-the-art command center that can monitor all public schools, 24/7. The Division has 28 public schools: 19 elementary schools, one (1) integrated school, and eight (8) high schools, three (3) of which offer senior high school programs and one (1) senior high school stand alone. There are 97 private schools in Muntinlupa.

The number of completers in the elementary level has been fluctuating for the past four years, with a percentage increase of 10% from 2017-2018. It ended high with a percentage of 97.93% in 2019.

The number of completers in the secondary level has been steady for three years and drastically went up to 95.78% in 2019. The data also shows that more girls are completing basic education than boys in the secondary level.

The Department of Education - International Cooperation Office selected Muntinlupa National High School to be one of the host schools for the Korea-Philippines Teacher Exchange Program. Mr Eunji Lee and Mr Zoe Cho who are both from South Korea were welcomed in the school from August to November 2019.

Awarding of Zayed Sustainability Prize during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week The prestigious Zayed Sustainability Prize was received by Mrs. Ma. Regaele A. Olarte and Mr. Jason B. The Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) and the Department of Education- NCR nominated Mrs. Ma. Regaele A. Olarte (Education Program Supervisor) to the fellowship program of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on integrating Nuclear Science in Secondary Schools. The IAEA selected Mrs. Olarte and sponsored to a fully- funded trip to the USA, representing the Philippines. In the duration of the course, Mrs. Olarte served as the team leader of the different participating countries and received the Best Lesson Exemplar Award for her exemplary work.
