We have managed to play catch-up so this time you will be receiving your fill of P79 during the third week of the month. However, it was not without a bit of a struggle though. What we have for you is a variation as always with a couple of new subjects to digest and a Brexit poem no less, which must be topical if nothing else. There is a brief mention of our forthcoming Reunion that seems to arrive with undue haste every year. The RAFHAA Chairman has submitted another missive about the forthcoming Reunion at Halton that has been rescheduled and therefore will be the very last one. Our new Assistant Editor John Stroud, who resides in Malaga no less, has excelled himself by penning an interesting read for one and all to digest. That brings me to the recurring subject of, how about a few words from those who have yet to provide us with an insight into their time at and after leaving Halton and the Royal Air Force! You must have done something to pass the time until retirement came around and thereafter too. Not to mention what are you doing now? Important Information An important item that you need to make a note of is the new email address for your 79th Periodical. However, first please be aware that the previous email address [email protected] HAS BEEN CLOSED. The new email address for all correspondence and articles can be found located in the same place as before but please make a note of it now! 79thEditors @protonmail. ch. Hopefully there will not be any problems from now on as this is a secure email system and it is FREE so you can sign up for it too. It became essential for me to change because both Gmail and Yahoo were losing, not delivering and being problematical in general making the process hit and miss. Luckily we have two editors once again. That said it would be nice if the readership welcomed John on board and thanked him for filling the shoes of Jerry, who served us well for five years. Not to mention taking on the responsibilities too. So how about it? Until next time, Keith Editors at large: Keith Goodyear & John Stroud Email: 79th Editors@Proton Mail.ch 2 The 79 th Annual Reunion 2019 The Barns Hotel, Bedford John Stroud Don’t forget that this years Reunion will once again be held at the Barns Hotel in Bedfordshire, a venue that proved so popular with one and all last year, with its idyllic surroundings. Pete Shaw will be providing further details later but for now, make a note in your Social Diaries that the Reunion will take place from Friday 4th to Sunday 6th of October. The venue is close enough to Cardington for you to see where the hoi poloi of the RAF i.e. non-Apprentices were inducted in those heady days of National Service. It is widely rumoured that on arrival at Cardington, the POM’s, i.e. Potential Officer Material could be identified by the fact that their 3 ton Bedford had a canvas cover to protect them from the rain, while the erks had no such luxuries. The local church is also interesting in that this has memorials to those who died in the Airship R101 disaster on 5th October 1930. The 89th anniversary of the disaster will be on the Saturday, during our Reunion. It is also the last flying weekend at Shuttleworth Collection, Old Warden and this day is designated by them as ‘Race Day’ so that should be something to watch!! Have you booked? If you have not booked already then time is flying, and although there is still some six months to go, leaving things until the last minute is not a good idea and you may then be disappointed. Furthermore, there will be a need to order what you would like from the menu, in due course. 3 My Links With RAF Halton John Stroud 79 th (and proud of it) Thought I would just say hello as I am helping Keith Goodyear with the 79th Periodical now, well Keith is doing all the work and I am doing the dissemination! (Too modest by half! Editor Keith) I feel a bit of a fraud actually because I only managed the first year of training, from Jan 55 to Jan 56, however, that year with the 79th was to the best thing that could have ever happened to me. I arrived at Halton as a callow youth from the Isle of Wight, the furthest I had ever travelled regularly before was to Portsmouth Christmas Shopping with my parents. There was one exception when my school took us to see the Scottish Play at the Globe Theatre Stratford and I got to meet Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh, falling madly in lust with the latter! I remember during my time at Halton a great panic one day when up on the ‘Pimple’ appeared someone hanging from a Gallows. When the panicking Snoops finally reached the Pimple they found to their chagrin that it was a cut out made from lino but it looked realistic enough from 2 Wing. Another time, we woke up to find our boots missing and realised when we looked out onto the square that the 73rd must have raided us and that our boots were on that square. The miserable toads had not been decent enough to put them out in pairs and it took me ages to find a pair that fitted me. but they were nicely bulled!! Would you believe it! It was on that same square that I had my first charge. We were all turned out for inspection and although I say it myself, we were fantastic, shining like beacons in the sun. The Inspecting Officer on that day was a jumped up from the ranks and he was determined to find something wrong if it took him all day. Finally, he came to me, stared at me in a state of near hysteria then wailed at Warrant Officer Carter - “That man has dirty ears - charge him!” The look on Warrant Officer Carters face was a treasure, it was the first time I had ever seen him lost for words. Moron repeated his request so off I went at the double to the Guardroom to report my 4 heinous crime to the occupants. After a moment of disbelief, there followed gales of laughter while I stood non-plussed. Needless to say serving my 3 days Jankers was not too unpleasant, because when every Orderly Officer was informed of my sin, you could see them trying hard not to lose it. So why did I leave after the first year you may ask? - in fact I enjoyed that year, filing, welding, beating red hot metal to death, great fun. But then came New Workshops, the part to which I had been looking forward and that’s when the trouble started. As hard as I tried, whenever I was tasked with taking something apart and putting it back together again, I always had a few parts left over - didn’t seem that important to me but the Instructors seemed to differ in their opinions. Rock a bye baby To add to this was the first unfortunate experience with the naked fuselage of a flying boat that sat outside the workshops. Pete Cook and I thought it would make a great see saw so he sat in the open part in the front while I clambered up onto the tail and off we rocking went! All went well until there was a loud crack and my end started so sink downward. The Instructors must have heard this and came racing to the scene but by that time Pete had removed himself from the front and stood looking innocent, while I was still stranded on the tail. It was decided that I should have a meeting with Air Commodore Tin Can Willey who seemed very reasonable to me and once again seemed to have trouble suppressing a smile as he read the report. I declined to snitch on my colleague so I was sent off with a final warning Ready for take-off? All went well for a couple of weeks but then came the incident with the Vampire in the hangar - this was on its undercarriage with supports (luckily!) under the wing tips. Left to my own devices, I got into the cockpit fully intending to bomb Germany, when my eye was caught by a lever that I did not recognise. I pumped vigorously at it and to my great surprise the undercarriage started to rise from the floor with each pump. I stopped but it was too late, I was given away by the grating noise coming from the wing as it began to reshape.

Granting of the requested exemption would also exempt Merit Clothing from the periodic reporting and proxy provisions of the Exchange Act, and its "insiders" would be exempt from the reporting and related provisions of Section 16 of the Act. According to the application, Merit Clothing is engaged in the manufacture of men's clothing. As of May 31, 1965, it had outstanding 1,000 preferred and 180,000 common shares, held by 55 and 1,259 individuals respectively. Merit Clothing does not believe that the Exchange Act requires the registration of its pre- ferred stock. Of the 1,259 common stock owners on May 31st, 1,149 were employees or customers and the re- maining 110 were former employees or their heirs. There is said to be virtually no trading interest in the common stock. The application further indi- cates that no brokerage firm has ever made a market for the Merit Clothing common stock, or is likely to do so in view of the nature of the company's business, its position in the clothing manufacturing industry, and its poor financial history.

XIV. 2.9) ABSTRACT This article is an overview of the concept of the general average rules that the Romans adopted from the Rhodesian Law and took place in the codification of Iustinianus. General average is one of the most ancient vestiges of maritime law and practice. Although the decline of Ancient Greece and the rise of the Roman Empire altered the influence of Rhodes maritime law; Rhodes retained its existence as a uniform code, since it was peaceful and profitable for Mediterranean trade. The Mediterranean Sea was, for more than one thousand years, only ruled by the Rhodian law, although augmented with some additions by the Romans. As a matter of fact, the lex Rhodia de iactu may be one of the most controversial issues of Roman private law, since the texts tend to be more historical than juristic. The company intends to use the proceeds of its financing to retire $20,000,000 of promissory notes issued to finance, in part, 1968 and 1969 construction and to finance, in part, the 1969 construction program (estimated at $58,600,000). AGASSIZ MINES SEEKS ORDER. Agassiz Mines Limited, of Toronto, a Canadian Corporation, nas applied to the SEC for an exemption order under the Investment Company Act with respect to a sale of its becurities to Value Line Special Situationa Fund, Inc.; and the Commission has issued an order (Release IC-S780) giving interested persons until August 26 to request a hearing thereon. In August 1968, Value Line acquired 400,000 shares of that company's common stock, or about 10% of the shares of Agassiz Mines then outstanding By virtue of such purchase the two companies became "affiliated persons" as that term ::'sdefined in the Act. Agassiz Mines seeks permission to sell an additional 79,500 shares to Value Line at a formula price of $.6525 per share.

Such methods, however, have paid less attention to the empirical characteristics of legal texts and occasionally projected an abstract framework onto the sources. The paper presents a series of computer-assisted methods to open new frontiers of inquiry. Using a Python coding environment, we have built a relational database of the Latin text of the Digest, a historical sourcebook of Roman law compiled under the order of Emperor Justinian in 533 CE. Subsequently, we investigated the structure of Roman law by automatically clustering the sections of the Digest according to their linguistic profile. Finally, we explored the characteristics of Roman legal language according to the principles and methods of computational distributional semantics. Our research has discovered an empirical structure of Roman law which arises from the sources themselves and complements the dominant scholarly assumption that Roman law rests on abstract structures. By building and comparing Latin word embeddings models, we were also able to detect a semantic split in words with general and legal sense.
