LAST GAME (Dec. 11) - Edmonton 6 at Colorado 4 Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored two of Edmonton's four goals in the second period and the Oilers went on to beat the Avalanche, 6-4, at Pepsi Center. Gabriel Landeskog (2g/2a) and Mikko Rantanen (1g/3a) both had four-point nights for the Avs, while linemate Nathan MacKinnon added two assists. The Avs out-shot the Oilers 43-26.

TONIGHT'S GAME The Avalanche heads to St. Louis to face the Blues this evening at the Enterprise Center. Tonight is the first half of a back-to-back for the Avs, who will return home to host the Dallas Stars tomorrow night at Pepsi Center. Tomorrow's contest is the start of a four-game homestand for the Avs, who have yet to play more than two home games in a row this season. The Avs have played the fewest home games in the NHL (12) and are tied for the most road dates (20th including tonight). Tonight ends a stretch of 20-of-30 away from home. Despite dropping their last two games, the Avs are still 10-3-2 in their last 15 games, 7-2-0 in their last nine on the road.

BACK-TO-BACK The Avs are playing back-to-back games for the fifth time this season, as they take on Blues tonight before hosting the Stars tomorrow night in Denver. Colorado has swept its last two back-to-back sets (both road-home), beating Arizona/Dallas Nov. 23-24 and Nashville/Pittsburgh Nov. 27-28. It marked the first time since November 2013 that Colorado swept two consecutive back-to-back sets. Colorado, which will play 11 back-to-back games, is 3-1-0 in the first game this year and 2-1-1 on the second game.

AVS & BLUES Tonight is the second of four meetings between these Central Division rivals and the first of two in St. Louis. The Blues won the first matchup 3-2 in overtime on Nov. 30 at Pepsi Center.

Carl Soderberg was also drafted by St. Louis (49th overall in 2004) ... Ryan O'Reilly was drafted by Colorado (33rd overall) in 2009 and began his career with the Avs ... ROAD WARRIORS Colorado is 11-6-2 on the road this year, tied for the most away points in the NHL (as of Thursday, Dec. 13). The Avs won six straight road games from Nov. 11–Dec. 2, equaling the second-longest road winning streak in franchise history and just one shy of the record set in 1998-99. The Avs posted their 10th road win in their 16th away game on Dec. 2, the second-fastest Avalanche team to reach 10 road wins in a season behind only 2013-14 squad (13 games). The Avs have scored 71 goals on the road, the most of any team.

LONGEST ROAD WINNING STREAKS 7 Jan. 10–Feb. 7, 1999 6 Nov. 11–Dec. 2, 2018 6 Oct. 8–Nov. 1, 2013 6 Oct. 10-22, 2011 6 Jan. 19–March 11, 2002 6 March 7–April 7, 2000

FIRST TO 50 Mikko Rantanen tallied four points (1g/3a) in Tuesday's loss to the Oilers to extend his scoring streak to 12 games and become the first NHL player to reach the 50-point mark this season (52). Rantanen joins Peter Forsberg (1997-98) as the only players in Avalanche/ Nordiques franchise history to be the first NHL player to 50 points in a season. The 22-year-old is the second player in Avalanche history (since 1995-96) to reach 50 points in 31 or fewer team games, as Forsberg did it in his 29th game during the 1995-96 campaign. This marks the first time in NHL history that a Finnish-born player was the first to 50 points. As of Thursday, Rantanen has held at least a share of the NHL scoring lead for each of the last 52 days since the morning of Oct. 23. He’s been the outright leader for 46 of those 52 days, including the last 29. Rantanen was also the first NHL player to both the 30- and 40-point marks this season.

RANTANEN STREAKING Mikko Rantanen has a career-high 12-game point streak (6g/17a), tied with Alex Ovechkin for the longest active streak in the NHL. Only one player has had a longer streak this season, Florida's Mike Hoffman, who had a point in 17 straight games from Oct. 13–Nov. 21. With a goal or assist tonight, Rantanen would equal the fifth-longest scoring streak in Avalanche history (since 1995-96).

LINE OF FIRE Colorado's top line of Landeskog (38)—MacKinnon (47)—Rantanen (52) has combined for 137 points (52g/85a) in 31 contests this season, the most points of any three teammates through 31 games since Daniel Alfredsson, Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza combined for 143 through 31 contests with Ottawa in 2005-06. • Colorado’s threesome has factored on 65 of 112 goals this season (58%). • Rantanen and MacKinnon have ranked 1-2 in league scoring for each of the last 22 days (as of Thursday). • MacKinnon/Rantanen are by far the most frequent point pair in the NHL, as 40 times they've BOTH been involved in a goal. • 19 times all three forwards have gotten points on the same goal. • 53 times at least two of the three has factored on a goal. • MacKinnon and Rantanen are tied for the NHL lead with 16 multi-point games in 2018-19, while Rantanen is tied for first in three-point games (7) and four-point efforts (3). • Rantanen has assisted on 19 of MacKinnon's 20 goals, including each of the first 17. • Rantanen (32), MacKinnon (29), Landeskog (24) currently rank 1-2-4 in road points (McDavid is third with 25). • Rantanen/MacKinnon were the sixth set of teammates in the last 20 years to be the first players to reach 40 points in a season. • The duo combined for 84 points at the end of November, the first teammates to have that many points on Dec. 1st since Pittsburgh's Mario Lemieux (52) and Jaromir Jagr (47) in 1995-96.

LET'S GRUB TONIGHT Philipp Grubauer is 7-0-2 in his last nine starts, equaling the longest streak of his career without a regulation loss (also 7-0-2 in 2016- 17). Jonathan Bernier had a nine-game streak without a regulation loss for the Avs last season, but the last time a Colorado netminder went 10 straight decisions without a regulation loss was in 2013-14, when Semyon Varlamov tied the franchise record with a 16-game run (11-0-5).

20-29 VISION Nathan MacKinnon scored his 20th goal of the season on Dec. 8 in Tampa Bay, matching Joe Sakic's Avalanche record for the fewest team games (30) to reach 20 goals. Sakic tallied his 20th in Colorado's 30th game in 1995-96.

THAT'S THE POWER OF LOVE As of Thursday, the Avalanche ranked second in power-play percentage at 29.7% (30/101). The Avs had been the league's top power play for nearly three weeks before being passed by Winnipeg on Tuesday night.

GETTING OFFENSIVE As of Thursday, the Avalanche ranked third in goals (112) and fourth in goals-per-game (3.61). The Avs rank second in third-period goals (47) and are leading all teams in combined second and third-period scoring (87).

SEEING STARS MacKinnon was named the NHL's Second Star for the month of November. He tied for the league lead with 23 points (9g/14a) in 14 games last month, equaling the Avalanche record for scoring in November set by Forsberg in 1995-96. The 23 points were a career high for MacKinnon in a single month.

NOT A BAD MONTH HIMSELF Rantanen finished with 22 points (6g/16a) in November, tied for third in the league. Rantanen, who led all NHL players with 21 points in October, is the first Avalanche player to post back-to-back 20-point months since Forsberg did it for three straight in 2002-03 (January–March). Rantanen is the first player in Avalanche history to ever do it the first two months of the hockey year. Not including April, Mikko has actually had three straight 20-point months going back to last year (23 in March 2017-18).
