  • A Short History of Pop ‘Pop’ Is Short for Popular Music
Read the text. A short history of pop ‘Pop’ is short for popular music. There are different styles of pop music, but they all appeal to the general public. But when did ‘modern’ pop music begin? There were two significant moments. First of all Leo Fender invented the electric guitar in 1950. Then, in 1954, Sony introduced the transistor radio and after that, music was accessible to people in their homes and cars. In 1954 Elvis Presley released That’s All Right. He fused country music with black rhythm and blues to create rock and roll. At that time this was an innovation, and Elvis, who was young, attractive and exciting, became the first teen idol and made pop music a youth culture. The 1960s was the decade of The Beatles, who dominated pop music from 1961 to 1970 with a new folk-rock sound. The Beatles were the first band to play in a stadium: Shea Stadium in New York in 1965. In June 1969 they had their seventeenth number one hit – two more than Elvis. The 60s also saw the first outdoor music festivals and popular music began to have a social and political message, for example, Bob Dylan. This was also the beginning of Motown and soul music with artists like Ray Charles, The Supremes and Marvin Gaye. Think English Elementary • Unit 9 p.107 © Oxford University Press PHOTOCOPIABLE Next came the 1970s and several new genres of music appeared, like reggae (Bob Marley), glam rock (David Bowie), punk (the Sex Pistols) and heavy metal (Iron Maiden).

See Inside the New Art-Filled Offices of JAY-Z’s Roc Nation 12.02.20 Posted by Caroline Williamson Commercial Interior Design Main Surrounded by galleries in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City, the new offices of Roc Nation fit right in with founder and rapper JAY-Z’s collection of modern art displayed throughout. Working closely with Roc Nation’s CEO, Desiree Perez, architect Jeffrey Beers designed a sleek, collaborative environment perfectly complementing the entertainment company’s impressive roster of talent and other creative ventures. https://design-milk.com/see-inside-the-new-art-filled-offices-of-jay-zs-roc-nation/ From Desiree Perez, Roc Nation’s CEO: The first thing a visitor notices is that it’s open, transparent and bold. I want the employees to feel creative without sensing barriers and I think that makes an enormous difference in what they bring to the table, in terms of ideas. A staircase wraps around a sculpture by artist Nick Cave. A mix of materials including buffed concrete and blackened metal framed glass were paired with warm walnut accents and textured wallcoverings that result in the sophisticated yet comfortable spaces. “From the start, we wanted to capture and express the hip, modern, industry leading culture of Roc Nation. The design had to be bold and fearless, and to connect with the creative client ethos,” Jeffrey Beers says. “We took a hospitality approach to the layout and planning of the interiors. The lobby entrance and 6th floor reception are bold and inviting. Throughout the floors, we designed lounge spaces to encourage gatherings and person to person connectivity among staff and visitors.” https://design-milk.com/see-inside-the-new-art-filled-offices-of-jay-zs-roc-nation/ Perfect for these COVID-19 times, they chose to enclose individual offices behind framed glass walls that keep the hallways light-filled and reflective.

  • 2019 Breeze Show Choir Catalog
Previously Arranged Titles (updated 3/6/19) Specific details about each arrangement (including audio samples) are available at https://breezetunes.com . The cost for each is $300 ($200 if using rhythm section only). The use of any of these arrangements requires a valid custom arrangement license purchased from https://tresonamusic.com . Their licensing fees typically range from $180 to $280 per song and must be paid before you can receive your music. Copyright approval frequently takes 4-6 weeks, sometimes longer, so plan accordingly. If changes to the arrangement are desired, there is an additional fee of $100. Examples of this include re-voicing (such as from SATB to another voice part), rewriting band parts, making cuts, adding an additional verse, etc. **Arrangements may be transposed into a different key free of charge, provided that the change does not make re-voicing necessary** To place an order, please e-mail [email protected] . Tips for success using Previously Arranged Titles: • Most arrangements can be made to work in any voicing, so don’t be afraid to look at titles written for other combinations of voices than what you have. Voice parts can also be reduced or simplified for smaller ensembles. • Adjustments often need to be made if you want to use a previously arranged title in a different show function than it was originally intended. This is especially true of arrangements written as a costume change or a transition number. I am more than happy to consult and make sure a previously arranged title fits with your show design. • Please communicate with me if your band instrumentation changes dramatically during the season, especially when it comes to horn players.

  • The Life & Rhymes of Jay-Z, an Historical Biography
ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: THE LIFE & RHYMES OF JAY-Z, AN HISTORICAL BIOGRAPHY: 1969-2004 Omékongo Dibinga, Doctor of Philosophy, 2015 Dissertation directed by: Dr. Barbara Finkelstein, Professor Emerita, University of Maryland College of Education. Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership. The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the life and ideas of Jay-Z. It is an effort to illuminate the ways in which he managed the vicissitudes of life as they were inscribed in the political, economic cultural, social contexts and message systems of the worlds which he inhabited: the social ideas of class struggle, the fact of black youth disempowerment, educational disenfranchisement, entrepreneurial possibility, and the struggle of families to buffer their children from the horrors of life on the streets. Jay-Z was born into a society in flux in 1969. By the time Jay-Z reached his 20s, he saw the art form he came to love at the age of 9—hip hop— become a vehicle for upward mobility and the acquisition of great wealth through the sale of multiplatinum albums, massive record deal signings, and the omnipresence of hip-hop culture on radio and television. In short, Jay-Z lived at a time where, if he could survive his turbulent environment, he could take advantage of new terrains of possibility. This dissertation seeks to shed light on the life and development of Jay-Z during a time of great challenge and change in America and beyond. THE LIFE & RHYMES OF JAY-Z, AN HISTORICAL BIOGRAPHY: 1969-2004 An historical biography: 1969-2004 by Omékongo Dibinga Dissertation submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate School of the University of Maryland, College Park, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy 2015 Advisory Committee: Professor Barbara Finkelstein, Chair Professor Steve Klees Professor Robert Croninger Professor Derrick Alridge Professor Hoda Mahmoudi © Copyright by Omékongo Dibinga 2015 Acknowledgments I would first like to thank God for making life possible and bringing me to this point in my life.
