And not just us - there’s a case that Notts has had one of the best decades musically in the UK. From sell out shows all around the world, to gold records. Soundtracks to legendary sporting moments, to Ivor Novellos. It’s been a significant decade for NG, arguably the most prominent music city of this decade. And it’s not just hype either, BBC One did a documentary asking the question - could Notts be the music city of the decade? Radio X - the humongous station - did a 90 minute showcase on Hoodtown’s vibra- tions. Exchange Experiences International Office UK – Nottingham Trent University 2019-2020 faculty/college Humanities level bachelor’s master’s PhD name study programme Communication and Information Sciences destination city & country Nottingham, United Kingdom how did you travel to your By plane destination? name university abroad Nottingham Trent University (NTU) start date 17 / 09 / 2019 (dd/mm/yyyy) end date 31 / 02 / 2020 (dd/mm/yyyy) PREPARATION exchange application process For me, the exchange application process started the moment I attended the Going Abroad presentation by the International Office. I knew that I wanted to go abroad, but I had no idea about what place I wanted to go. After the presentation I knew that I wanted to go to an Englisch speaking country and Nottingham Trent Uni had a lot of creative media modules (cursussen) that I was interested in, so that became my nr. 1 choice, and I got it! counselling & support at Utrecht University To be honest, the application process can get a little overwhelming at times. So I was happy to know that the International Office was there to answer all my questions. At Uni, we learn to find a solution to our problems ourselves, but with this process it can be super helpful to seek that extra support that the International Office can give you when you're unsure about something. It's better to ask than to make a mistake in your application! academic preparation I could pick 3 modules from a list of availible modules for international students. The ones I picked were all related to my studies here at UU and they were a little bit more practical, so I didn't need to prepare. -

England England https://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/3846.htm Fact Sheet February 20, 2020 U.S.-UNITED KINGDOM RELATIONS The United States has no closer partner than the United Kingdom. Following the end of the American Revolution in 1783, the United Kingdom officially recognized American independence, and in 1785, our two countries established diplomatic relations. Other than a brief break in relations during the War of 1812, the United States and the United Kingdom have remained durable partners and Allies. Our partnership is the foundation of our mutual prosperity and security. The strong relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom reflects our common democratic ideals and values, which are reinforced through cooperation on political, security, and economic issues. Along with other European Allies, the United States and the United Kingdom work closely together to combat terrorism, stop the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and work to solve regional issues, such as ending conflicts in the Middle East. Following the United Kingdom’s January 31, 2020 departure from the European Union, the United States continues to be a strong partner to the United Kingdom and looks forward to negotiating an ambitious U.S.-U.K. free trade agreement. The United States supports the peace process and devolved political institutions in Northern Ireland and encourages the implementation of the U.S.-brokered 1998 Belfast Agreement, also known as the Good Friday Agreement. U.S. Assistance to the United Kingdom The International Fund for Ireland (IFI), created in 1986, provides funding for projects to generate cross-community engagement and economic opportunity in Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland. -

First you have to choose the university/universities you want to go to and apply for those writing a motivation letter and handing in your CV. After a while you will get to know if you are seelcted and whether you could go abroad. After hearing this, some forms need to be signed and you have to get in contact with your receiving university. With NTU this was all very clear and went smoothly. counselling & support at Utrecht University I think it is really nice that you can always walk into the International Office at UU to ask a question about your exchange. They provided me with all the information I needed. academic preparation Because the modules I was going to do at NTU were totally different from the ones I already did at UU, there was not a lot of preparation needed. Also, at NTU you will only get most information in the first week of classes. So only then you really know what you are going to do and what you will need this semester. language preparation Because I went to and English speaking country, I did not need any language preparation.
