Astley Village Parish Council welcomes the opportunity to make a submission regarding new ward boundaries for Borough Council. The Council notes that the ward in which the Parish is currently located - Astley & Buckshaw - is significantly under- represented due to the growth of . On the basis of the Commission’s recommended 42 councillors for Chorley, it is assumed that each councillor will represent approx 2000 electors. The current number of electors for Astley Village is approx 2400 so in order that the Parish is not divided it is assumed it will be part of a larger ward with 2 or 3 councillors. Astley Village relates most closely to Chorley Town given its proximity to Astley Park and easy walking/bus routes into Town. Many residents access key services (such as medical, dental, etc) and shops in Chorley. The Park is very well used by residents and there is good access to Chorley & South Ribble Hospital. Prior to 2002, the last boundary reorganisation, Astley Village was part of a Town ward, and it would seem appropriate for this to be the case again. The Council recognises that Buckshaw Village has, and will continue, to grow and has its own distinct community which should lead to the creation of a new Buckshaw ward. The part of Buckshaw within the current ward is in Parish and, whilst Astley Village residents use services and other facilities (such as the railway station) in Buckshaw and Euxton, there is no close relationship with either. The Parish Council would wish to see the name Astley featuring in the name of the new ward, particularly as the only parished area within a Town ward.

Bretherton Parish Council is situated at the boundary of the Chorley area and is bordered by South Ribble Council and West Lancs District Council. As we are a rural Parish it would seem logical for Bretherton to be in the same ward as and .

The Parish Council hope the above comments are helpful

Organisation Name: Euxton Parish Council

Comment text:

Euxton is a village with a strong identity. The Parish Council is very active in keeping the village informed and ‘together’ and it actively includes the new houses on Buckshaw (most of which are in Euxton) and communicates regularly with the whole of the village with activities and news. The Parish Council wants the village identity to be upheld and prevent it from further erosion by giving wards names and titles which do not include ‘Euxton’. Presently there are many Euxton residents with a ward name which has two other village names in but not ‘Euxton’s’. The Parish Council would like to see ‘Euxton’ feature in the names of all the wards which include Euxton residents. The Parish Council envisages that because Euxton is large it will be carved up and used to fill up wards with shortages of numbers but, this would split the village in to a number of different wards and some residents would have to travel some distance to get to their polling station to vote. The Parish Council would ideally like to see ‘Euxton’ in its own wards, not split or carved up to make the numbers up in other wards. This will preserve Euxton's identity as a village.
