A guide and list to a collection of Historic Railway Documents www.railarchive.org.uk to e mail click here December 2017 1 Since July 1971, this private collection of printed railway documents from pre grouping and pre nationalisation railway companies based in the UK; has sought to expand it‟s collection with the aim of obtaining a printed sample from each independent railway company which operated (or obtained it‟s act of parliament and started construction). There were over 1,500 such companies and to date the Rail Archive has sourced samples from over 800 of these companies. Early in 2001 the collection needed to be assessed for insurance purposes to identify a suitable premium. The premium cost was significant enough to warrant a more secure and sustainable future for the collection. In 2002 The Rail Archive was set up with the following objectives: secure an on-going future for the collection in a public institution reduce the insurance premium continue to add to the collection add a private collection of railway photographs from 1970‟s onwards provide a public access facility promote the collection ensure that the collection remains together in perpetuity where practical ensure that sufficient finances were in place to achieve to above objectives The archive is now retained by The Bodleian Library in Oxford to deliver the above objectives. This guide which gives details of paperwork in the collection and a list of railway companies from which material is wanted. The aim is to collect an item of printed paperwork from each UK railway company ever opened.

  • Year Ended March 2017 Audit Report to the Members of the Council
Bretherton Parish Council – Year Ended March 2017 Audit Report to the Members of the Council. As in previous years I have audited of the books of account and associated reports for Bretherton Parish Council for the twelve months ended 31st March 2017 and detail below my observations; The accounting records are very well maintained and provide a clear audit trail through to the Annual Return submitted to the External Auditor. The prime entries are fully recorded and flow through to summaries from which monthly accounts are compiled. The audit was concerned with internal controls and ensuring that they were fit for purpose but the major amount of time was spent following the audit trail from original entry through to final accounts. During the audit the following checks were carried out; 1. Annual Precept 2. Expenditure documentation (invoices). 3. Income analysis along with supporting documentation where available. 4. Scrutinise council minutes for exceptional activity. The monthly financial submissions to council now include Bank Reconciliation and a Financial Monitoring Schedule , which effectively gives council an accurate overview of the financial state of the parish council. Full council at their meeting held on 1 st February 2016 agreed the Parish Precept. This was prepared to a documented timetable and reported against at each council meeting. A Risk Assessment was carried out in April 2017. Standing Orders (5 th October 2015) and Financial Regulations (5 th October 2015) are current and adopted by council. Bank Balances at the end of March 2017 were £20.9k; at the end of the prior year the balance was £14.7k.

215 ceed, which signal is given as frequently as possible; as, by stopping, the diffi- Lancashire mod a long gradient, which occurs on the Leeds side of Yorkshire culty of surmounting heavy way the station, is increased. On the present occasion, the driver, guard, and fireman, ' all assert that the station master gave them the signal to proceed, as they pasBed the platform ; whilst the station master states positively that he gave them the signal to stop. I would beg in conclusion, to suggest for the consideration ol the two com- panies that it might tend to the safety of the traffic at this junction, if all trains were in future ordered to stop, invariably, at the Kuottingley station, a precaution which is perhap s the more necessary on account of the gradient of 1 in 150, which descends towards Knottingley from Leeds, extending to a distance of four miles from the former station. I have, &c. The Secretary of the H. W. TTLER, Railway Department, Board of Trade. Lieut. R.E. Inspector of Railways. NORTH UNION RAILWAY.
