However, failing to find meaning in his work, he cowardly runs away and leaves the beautiful Scheherazade to stand in his shoes. She will require enthusiasm and courage so as not to bore the King with sad stories of this country. As nights go past, restlessness leads to desolation and in turn to enchantment! Therefore Scheherazade organises the stories she tells the King in three volumes. She begins like this: “It hath reached me, O auspicious King, that in a sad country among all countries...”. v>lume 1 the restless one 2h05 – DCP – 2:40 scope – 16mm, 35 mm – color – sound 5.1 In which Scheherazade tells of the restlessness that befell the country: Portugal, France, Germany, Switzerland – 2015 “It hath reached me, O auspicious King, that in a sad country among all countries, where people dream of mermaids and whales, and cast Crista Alfaiate, Adriano Luz, Américo Silva, Rogério Samora, Carloto Cotta, Fernanda Loureiro unemployment is spreading. In certain places, forests burn into the night despite the falling rain; men and women long to set out to sea in the middle of Winter. Sometimes there are animals that talk although it is highly improbable that they are listened to. In this country, where things are not what they appear to be, men of power promenade on camels and hide permanent and shameful erections; they await the moment when taxes are collected so they can pay a certain wizard whom…” And seeing the morning break, Scheherazade fell silent. -

presents DIAMANTINO A FILM BY GABRIEL ABRANTES & DANIEL SCHMIDT **GRAND PRIX WINNER | 2018 CANNES CRITICS’ WEEK** PORTUGAL, FRANCE & BRAZIL - 92 MIN - COLOUR - IMAGE 2:39 - SOUND 5:1 Run Time: 93 minutes Publicity Contact: David Ninh, [email protected] Distributor Contact: Graham Swindoll, [email protected] Kino Lorber, Inc. 333 West 39 St. Suite 503 New York, NY 10018 (212) 629-6880 SYNOPSIS Diamantino, the world’s premiere soccer star (played by Carloto Cotta), loses his special touch and ends his career in disgrace. Searching for a new purpose, the international icon sets out on a delirious odyssey where he confronts neo-fascism, the refugee crisis, genetic modification, abuse at the hands of his evil twin sisters, and a deranged hunt for the source of genius.. A CONVERSATION BETWEEN CO-DIRECTORS GABRIEL ABRANTES & DANIEL SCHMIDT Gabriel Abrantes: Diamantino mixes money laundering, soccer star cloning, fascist machinations, evil twins, and giant puppies. Is there something that brings it all together? Daniel Schmidt: Diamantino is a sci-fi, horror, noir, and romantic comedy mashup. It’s is a dark fairy tale for adults. But it’s not set in a make-believe “Once upon a time” neverland, it is set amid the conflicts of today: it’s the story of star-crossed lovers, in the middle of the refugee crisis, the Panama papers, and the rise of the extreme right. GA: Sounds like a chaotic mix. DS: I think the chaos of today is mirrored in the film - but it’s topicality and gravity give it focus. Like any good fairy tale, I hope the film entertains while also offering some new perspective on what’s happening in the world. -

Arabian Nights is the result of a year's worth of investigation, writing and shooting by Gomes and his team of researchers and journalists, who gathered true stories of hardship from across Portugal and transformed them into episodes both fictional and documentary, loosely based on the structure of The Arabian Nights, and shot in 16mm and 35mm by Apichatpong Weerasethakul's long-time cinematographer, Sayombhu Mukdeeprom. It premiered at Cannes 2015, in the Quinzaine, where it garnered huge press attention, and the coveted Palm Dog awarded to its canine star Lucky (Dixie).
