These paintings were all produced this Spring, especially for display here at Halsham Waterside. They were painted in and around the local villages, and often were views I stumbled across, whether it be one of the first trees in blossom in Ottringham, to the warm light and violet shadows of the setting sun across the allotments at Ryehill. The views were often chosen because of the light effect, as opposed to the subject. They show my continual studies in to painting not just light, but atmosphere, which gives a landscape its life. After finishing work on my East coast series, which is currently on display in Point Lighthouse and the discovery centre at Spurn, it was lovely to explore my surroundings closer to home. Halsham Waterside has been a huge support for me, and it’s such a pleasure to show paintings that will hopefully be enjoyed there. If you get a chance, please pop in for a look, there are so many delicious treats on offer too.

HEDON RANGERS EASTSIDE U’10’S HOLLAND TRIP 2019 By Thomas Acklam

We had 8 members of our team who went on this trip to Holland, we went on the Pride of Hull ferry from Hull. This was the first time I had been on a ferry and thought it was lots of fun we even went to the cinema.

When we got to Holland we had to get a bus to where we were staying in Hapert at a park called Landal Het Vennenbos. We had a great swimming pool and other activities to do on site.

We had 1 friendly match arranged which we won and 2 football tournaments. We went to Helmond and Heuman for the tournaments, the weather was really hot, but I still enjoyed playing football. I normally play in defence, but even got to score a goal in one of the matches. We came second in one tournament and third in the other. I saw some other friends who also went on the same trip everyone did really well in both tournaments.

I hope we get to go to Holland again next year.

Congratulations on your goal Thomas and thank you for sharing this exciting trip with us. Good luck for next year.

EAST RIDING GIRL WINS PLACE AT THE ROYAL BALLET SCHOOL 10 APRIL 2019

(Authorised press release from the Royal Ballet)

A 10-year-old girl from the East Riding villages, Charlotte Parrish, has won a place at the prestigious Royal Ballet School, ahead of very stiff competition. Each year, The Royal Ballet School conducts rigorous UK-wide auditions which see thousands of young people compete for just 24 places.

About Charlotte

Charlotte first started dancing at the age of four at the LWHS School of Dance in Hedon where she has enjoyed studying Ballet, Modern Dance, Tap, Musical Theatre and Acro. Her commitment to ballet led her to audition for The Royal Ballet’s Junior Associate Programme in Leeds at the age of seven, successfully claiming one of only three places on offer. This year Charlotte went on to successfully audition for The Royal Ballet School at White Lodge in London’s Richmond Park, where she will become a boarding student from September 2019.

Charlotte lives in the small rural community of Ottringham with her parents Martin and Laura who have both lived in the East Hull Villages all their lives.

Her family commented: ‘We are so proud of Charlotte achieving her dream of joining The Royal Ballet School, she made the decision four years ago that this was what she wanted to do and has worked hard every day ever since. She has had the full support of her family and dance teachers at LWHS and we have encouraged her along the way. She thoroughly deserves this opportunity and we are all absolutely delighted for her.’

‘Charlotte has always worked so hard at her ballet and to have that recognised by one of the world’s greatest ballet schools means everything to both her and her family. To think that she will be training at the very same school as her idols Margot Fonteyn, Darcey Bussell and Francesca Hayward is just amazing.’

Support Charlotte

A place at The Royal Ballet School costs over £33,000 per year. The Government’s Department for Education offers UK students means- tested support for fees through the Music and Dance Scheme. There is however a substantial sum which has to be met by parents, as the grant does not cover all of the School’s fees nor items such as ballet shoes, uniform, music lessons or trips home. If you could support Charlotte and help her realise her dream to train at The Royal Ballet School, please email [email protected] or complete an online donation form and include the reference ‘Charlotte Parrish’ in the notes section.

Congratulations Charlotte on your amazing success! On behalf of everyone in our three parishes we wish you a very successful and happy future with the Royal Ballet Company and for your future.

You will have a very busy timetable, but we would love to hear from you and your experience at the Royal Ballet School, if ever you have the time!

Ottringham Playing Field Group

Some more good news..! We came second in Tesco’s Bags of Help Community Grant Scheme.

Bags of Help is run in partnership with environmental charity Groundwork, and sees grants awarded to thousands of local community projects every year. Since launching in 2015, it has provided more than £75 million to over 25,000 local community projects.

We have been awarded £2,000 by the Tesco Store, which is amazing! Thank you to all those people who voted for us, we really so appreciate your support!

Work will now begin on bringing the project to life, which will involve re-marking up the old tarmac pitch on the playing field and installing some new multi-functional goal posts.
