POSITIONING YOUTH TENNIS FOR SUCCESS POSITIONING YOUTH TENNIS FOR SUCCESS BRIAN HAINLINE, M.D. CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER UNITED STATES TENNIS ASSOCIATION United States Tennis Association Incorporated 70 West Red Oak Lane, White Plains, NY 10604 usta.com © 2013 United States Tennis Association Incorporated. All rights reserved. PREFACE The Rules of Tennis have changed! That’s right. For only the fifth time in the history of tennis, the Rules of Tennis have changed. The change specifies that sanctioned events for kids 10 and under must be played with some variation of the courts, rules, scoring and equipment utilized by 10 and Under Tennis. In other words, the Rules of Tennis now take into account the unique physical and physiological attributes of children. Tennis is no longer asking children to play an adult-model sport. And the rule change could not have come fast enough. Something drastic needs to happen if the poor rate of tennis participation in children is taken seriously. Among children under 10, tennis participation pales in relation to soccer, baseball, and basketball. Worse, only .05 percent of children under 10 who play tennis participate in USTA competition. Clearly, something is amiss, and the USTA believes that the new rule governing 10-and- under competition will help transform tennis participation among American children through the USTA’s revolutionary 10 and Under Tennis platform. The most basic aspect of any sport rollout is to define the rules of engagement for training and competition. So in an attempt to best gauge how to provide the proper foundation for kids to excel in tennis—through training, competition, and transition—the USTA held its inaugural Youth Tennis Symposium in February 2012.

  • Press Release
PRESS RELEASE THE ROLAND-GARROS TOURNAMENT ANNOUNCES THE OPENING OF TICKET AND SPECIFIES ITS CONDITIONS FOR WELCOMING VISITORS Paris, 2nd July 2020 The Roland-Garros 2020 tournament, which will be held from 21st September to 11th October, is delighted to announce that ticket sales will open on Thursday 9th July. The French Tennis Federation – which is acting responsibly and in close collaboration with the French government authorities, while benefitting from the advice of a committee of multi-disciplinary experts – is adapting and will continue to adapt to the situation caused by the Covid-19 crisis. It has prepared a protocol that aims to protect spectators attending this historic edition of Roland-Garros. Ticket sales for Roland-Garros 2020 will open on 9th July for priority purchasers (members of FFT-licensed clubs) and on 16th July for the general public. During the 2020 tournament, spectators will have the opportunity to watch the qualifying rounds (men’s and women’s), the men’s and women’s singles and doubles, the junior singles and doubles (boys’ and girls’), and the wheelchair tennis and quad events. In view of the current situation, which is constantly changing, the reservation system for the three show courts (Philippe-Chatrier, Suzanne-Lenglen and Simonne-Mathieu) is becoming more flexible. Tickets will be sold by day, court and seat category. Purchasers will be told the exact position of their seat in mid-September. If the situation continues to improve, more tickets may be put on sale at the beginning of September. However, if the situation requires more stringent hygiene standards that force us to reduce the number of spectators on site, the tournament organisers will refund any supplementary tickets sold.

  • PRESS RELEASE International Tennis Federation and National Associations Announce World Tennis Number Project the International T
PRESS RELEASE International Tennis Federation and National Associations announce World Tennis Number project The International Tennis Federation (ITF) and leading National Tennis Associations today announced a strategic project to develop and implement a global, level-based tennis rating, designed to enable more matches to be played between players of similar levels, from beginners to professionals. The new rating, called the World Tennis Number (WTN), will aim to break down one of sport’s key barriers to participation – uneven match-ups - allowing players of all abilities to determine their individual level. This will help players identify opponents and competitions of an appropriate standard and access to more competitive and enjoyable playing opportunities. ITF President, David Haggerty, said: “Our vision is simple, to create local online communities of tennis players sharing meaningful and enjoyable tennis experiences through level-based play. With this new platform, we have the means to connect a worldwide community of 87 million tennis players and fans.” The WTN project, approved by the ITF Board of Directors in March 2018, is led by a steering committee composed of executives from the ITF, French Tennis Federation (FFT), LTA and United States Tennis Association (USTA), and supported by a project team and an advisory group of nations that also includes experts from the National Associations of Canada, China, Ireland, Netherlands and Switzerland. Sports technology experts, Club Spark, have been selected to build the World Tennis Number digital platform. This platform will create a global online tennis community, enabling players to access their WTN from anywhere in the world, record and measure their progress, and interact with other tennis players.

  • World's Tennis Governing Bodies Join Calls to Immediately End Illegal
For Immediate Release World’s Tennis Governing Bodies Join Calls To Immediately End Illegal Piracy Operations in Saudi Arabia LONDON – July 5, 2018 – The world’s tennis governing bodies have joined forces to publicly condemn and call for the immediate closure of the illegal Saudi Arabian-based piracy operation, “beoutQ”. Over the past year, a whole variety of world tennis content has been illegally broadcast across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region by a pirate television channel called beoutQ, which in turn distributes the content on the Riyadh-based satellite provider Arabsat, without any rights whatsoever to do so. The united voice of condemnation from world tennis joins the chorus of other world sports organisations that have been calling for Arabsat to stop facilitating the mass-scale piracy and for decisive action to be taken to stamp out beoutQ. beIN MEDIA GROUP is the exclusive rights holder in the MENA region of major tennis tournaments, which are owned, operated, sanctioned or their rights sold by organisations across world tennis including the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the ATP World Tour, ATP Media, the Women’s Tennis Association, the United States Tennis Association, the French Tennis Federation, Tennis Australia; and it represents the global rights to the International Tennis Federation. It is these leading tennis organisations, extending to all four corners of world tennis, that have come together to denounce beoutQ. Over the past 12 months beoutQ has been brazenly stealing the broadcast feeds of international tennis tournaments and distributing them illegally on a satellite provider called Arabsat. The premium sports content is then viewable on illegal beoutQ boxsets and online, in many cases for free across MENA.
