PASTORAL MESSAGE

“It is the Day of Resurrection: Let us be glorious in splen- dor for the Festival, and let us embrace one another. Let us speak also, O brethren, to those that hate us, and in the Resurrection, let us forgive all things, and so let us cry: Christ has risen from the dead, by death trampling upon Death, and has bestowed Life to those in the tombs.”

Dear Faithful:

Our Parish Family has been blessed and spiritually renewed with all our Lenten Renewal Programs, Bible Studies, worship, hospital and home visitations and most importantly...The Sacrament of Holy Confession. Lifting up the worldly burdens and awaiting the New Light of Faith!

Indeed, we soon will embark upon the GREAT and SACRED PILGRIMAGE of Holy Week and Pascha. In solemn hymn and prayer we await the miracle of joy in His Sacred Resurrection. The NEW LIGHT of Christ...of Hope...of Love...of Abounding Devotion. Let us all gather in anticipation of the Great Feast in prayer, fasting and contrition.

Let our voices rejoice in the great hymn of CHRISTOS ANESTE/CHRIST IS RISEN and let our hearts and souls be exalted in Love and Joy. The opportu- nity is again before us. Take hold of your faith and His Joy and partake in the Great Feast of Feasts.

On behalf of Father Panagiotis, the Parish Council and all our Church Organi- zations; we wish one and all a Blessed and Joyous Pascha. We remain,

In His Name, Gather for Holy Week and Pascha. Join us also for our Pascha Rev. Fr. James Dokos Reception following the Anastasis! PROTOPRESBYTER

Parish Council News April, 2014

Greetings from your parish council! I hope you and your families are enjoying a blessed Lenten season and are finding it to be a time of spiritual growth and re- newal.

Plans are in the works for a food festival (official name still being developed!), on September 6-7 at SS. Peter & Paul. Christy Gouletas is leading an enthusiastic group of volunteers in planning this event. The plans thus far include having the event indoors, keeping the parking lot available and hedging against the possibility of inclement weather. The planning meetings are being held the third Wednesday of every month, so if you're interested in helping out, show up to a meeting or let Christy know. I'm particularly excited that a group of our "20-somethings" are in- volved and taking on leadership responsibilities. A shout out to Nick Colis, Alex- andra Zubay, Dean Economos, and Allison and Kristen Desent (and others if I've forgotten). Keep up the good work and invite your friends.

We had originally been given our financial assessment to the Archdiocese for 2014 that included a 7% increase from the 2013 level. Thank you to Steve Koulogeorge our Treasurer who submitted a very detailed appeal document, and Father Jim who delivered it, resulting in a decision from the Metropolis finance committee rees- tablishing our commitment at the prior 2013 level of $103,649.

Many of you are aware of the problems we've had with providing a consistent level of heat in both the church and the community center. We've addressed the church issue after consultation with our HVAC vendor by replacing the thermostats, a rela- tively inexpensive fix. The problem in the classroom area, with some rooms being cool and others excessively warm is being addressed as well. There is a way to re- balance the system to provide more consistently comfortable temperatures on both sides of the building. This will be completed soon.

On behalf of the parish council, I wish you a blessed Holy Week and joyous Pas- cha!

Jim Santos President, Parish Council

HOPE: The Hope Group is observing a break from meeting for the remainder of the Lenten season. We will start our regularly scheduled meetings again following Pascha.

Faith/Love/Joy: Faith Love & Joy had their biggest turn out of the year this past month. It was great to see so many young faces gathered together in fellowship and to learn about our faith. FL&J spent their craft time on a project that helped to separate those things we should do more of and those things we should avoid during Lent. We also dis- cussed the Sunday of Orthodoxy and the im- portance of Icons in the life of an Orthodox Christian. We would like to invite all the elementary school children to the next Faith Love & Joy night on April 1st.

Jr. G.O.Y. A. / Sr. G.O.Y.A.: GOYA met twice last month to focus on our Lenten Journey and to pre- pare for Pascha. We spent our time focusing on fasting, prayer and confession, and discussed how to bring Lent out of the Church and into our daily lives as young Orthodox Christians.

Our second meeting of the month will be a GOYA BBQ and Bonfire to celebrate Bright week, and the breaking of the Fast after Pascha.

Our GOYA meetings this month will be Tuesday April 8th& 22nd.
