The group also spoke about what they do at meetings and things that they are doing around the school. The group has worked to make signs to help encourage other students to keep the bathrooms clean and they are helping in the area of school safety by being a part of an effort to have 16 security cameras installed at the school. Kenbridge Elementary has also started a new Spanish Club. Teachers stay after school once a week and are learning Spanish from several of our Hispanic Students. The “student teachers” have lesson plans and use flashcards to teach the teachers. At last night’s meeting, they used their flashcards to give some initial instruction and then encouraged anyone present to download and login to the Kahoot app. Those who participated took a quiz using the app. The group did well as a whole and enjoyed the fun competition.

CHARLOTTE COURT HOUSE - The Randolph-Henry wres- tling team recently competed in the Region 2A Champion- ship match at Poquoson High School. The team put together a strong performance overall as they finished fifth out of 14 teams that were competing in the event. In addition to the team performance, the Statesmen had several strong individual performances that included Bry- cen Arbogast claiming the regional championship for the 106-pound division. Despite battling some illness, senior standout Danny Par- rish gutted out a region runner-up finish in the 170-pound division and advances on to the state tournament. Arbogast and Parrish both move on to the state wrestling match while Shawn Copeland (113 division) and Izaia Foster (152 division) are alternates. The top three wrestlers from each weight class move on to the state tournament, while the fourth place finishers are alternates in case one of the top three is unable to compete. R-H also had to overcome injury issues as senior stand- out Chandler Newcomb was injured during the event, which likely cost him a top three finish and others that were unable to compete. The Virginia High School League Class 2 State Champion- ship is set for this weekend on Feb. 21-22. The event will take place at the Salem Civic Center. Eagles Celebrate Seniors FARMVILLLE - The se- niors at Prince Edward High School on the boys and girls basketball teams were cele- brated and recognized during the Senior Night Celebration. The Lady Eagles wrapped up their season with a huge rivalry game win over Cum- berland by a 42-38 score. This win gave Prince Edward a third place finish in the James River District and an 11-11 record overall. The Prince Edward boys and senior cheerleaders were also recognized during their final home game of the sea- son. The boys ended their year with a hard fought close loss to the Cumberland Dukes by a 58-51 score. The Eagles ended their regular season with a 6-16 record. Buckingham Claims the JRD Tourney Title BUCKINGHAM - After finishing the regular season in the James River District as co-champions with the Goochland Bulldogs, the Buckingham Knights claimed the tournament championship over the Bulldogs. Each team ended the regular season with a 14-2 record, but Buckingham had the top seed in the tournament this past Saturday. They used a fourth quarter comeback while scoring 15 unanswered points to get the 46-37 championship win. Goochland had a six point lead late in the fourth quarter of the game, but a bucket by Gerry Toney gave Buckingham the 38-37 lead and they would not allow another Goochland point. Amari Toney was the leading scorer with 13 points, while Gerry Toney added 9 points and 10 rebounds. The baseball program recently had some help from school clubs in making upgrades to their facility. “Going into a new year, our thoughts as a staff were, ‘What can we do to upgrade our facility?’ We all agreed our dugouts needed attention and with a complete team effort, we were able to produce a solid product. “Our baseball players sacrificed an entire Saturday to paint the background and woodwork. Mr. Taylor’s carpentry class sanded and stained the benches in both dugouts. Ad- ditionally, the carpentry class installed hooks and put new white vinyl fascia up in the home dugout. “Mrs. Oseguera’s art club put the finishing touches on the product by painting Statesmen Baseball and our R-H logo inside the home dugout. This project started in the fall, and now with labels in all of the cubbies and a new bulletin board installed, it is finally complete! We want to thank everyone that worked behind the scenes to help make this project a success. We are looking forward to another great season on the diamond!”

A bucket by Tae Holmes gave SVCC a 33-32 lead with 1:45 left to play in the first half and Miles buried a trey to give the local squad a 36-32 lead at the halftime break. A trey by Miles at the 19:03 mark of the second half gave SVCC a 40-34 lead. The team got back to back treys from Rick Sullivan for a 47-40 lead at the 13:56 mark. Aaron Logan hit two treys in a two-minute span to give SVCC a 61-50 lead with 10:09 left to play. SVCC went cold for over five minutes and did not score again until a 3-point play by Sullivan gave SVCC a 65-64 lead with 4:56 to play. A bucket by Sullivan with 3:26 to play gave SVCC its last lead at 69-67 but the visitors outscored the home team 13-3 the rest of the way. LUNENBURG - Virginia Motorsports Park held their an- nual awards banquet this past weekend to honor the points championship winners from the different divisions. Lunenburg was well represented as David Clark won the 2019 Championship in the 5.49 Division. Clark is the back to back champion and this was his fourth championship overall since he started racing in the division at VMP. Clark thanked Wayne Gee, who is the car owner, for al- lowing him to drive for him and such a great team. He was joined by his sons and his father, Timmy Clark, who was also on hand at the event and recognized for his third place finish in the points this year.
