For its fifth participation at Retromobile, Ascott Collection will be presenting a selection of historic racing cars. The Formula 1 car of John Surtees and Mike Hailwood, two world motorsport champions. John Surtees was greatly attached to the SURTESS TS9B # 5, keeping it right up until 1999. This historic F1 car made a name for itself in the streets of Monaco, where it regularly finished among the leaders of the 1966 -1972 editions of the Monaco Grand Prix Historique. The Chevron B16 # 4. No doubt one of the finest prototypes of the 70's. Ascott Collection is proud to have the privilege of offering for sale chassis No. 4, a B16 that is widely known for its authenticity and its history, with participations in the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1970 to its credit: in short, a car that has now acquired considerable rarity value.... Now that historic races have incorporated a new generation of racing cars, Ascott Collection will be exhibiting a 2009 ORECA FLM09 at the Historic Sportscar Racing stand. The HSR hosts a series of historic races on the other side of the Atlantic, including one of the world's finest historic races, the HSR Classic 24 Hours of Daytona. With Lister having relaunched the production of a new series of only 10 Lister Knobblys, Ascott Collection will be offering for sale N° 7, which is ready to race, in its magnificent livery... The gorgeous 1988 MARCH BUICK 86G MOMO will be presented. Bought, sponsored and extensively raced in 1988 by Gianpiero Moretti, the owner of MOMO, it is the most developed MARCH BUICK 86G from the IMSA GTP period. -

And Grand Prix racing for Formula 1 single-seater cars is the RIX GREATS toughest of them all. The ultimate ambition of every racing driver since 1950, when the com petition was first introduced, has been to be crowned as 'World Cham pion'. In this, his fourth book, author Peter Miller looks into the back ground of just one of the annual qualifying rounds-the British Grand Prix-which go to make up the elusive title. Although by no means the oldest motor race on the English sporting calendar, the British Grand Prix has become recognised as an epic and invariably dramatic event, since its inception at Silverstone, Northants, on October 2nd, 1948. Since gaining World Championship status in May, 1950 — it was in fact the very first event in the Drivers' Championships of the W orld-this race has captured the interest not only of racing enthusiasts, LOONS but also of the man in the street. It has been said that the supreme test of the courage, skill and virtuosity of a Grand Prix driver is to w in the Monaco Grand Prix through the narrow streets of Monte Carlo and the German Grand Prix at the notorious Nürburgring. Forty years on, one-litre F3 screamers return to Monaco Four decades - less one week, but who’s counting? – after its last appearance as a contemporary class, one-litre Formula 3 made a triumphant return to the streets of Monaco, where it proved one of the highlights the ACM’s 7th Grand Prix Historique extravaganza on May 1/2. Tony Trimmer, who won the fi nal F1 support race of the era in 1970, in a Race Cars International-entered Brabham BT28, was there to witness the action, as was three-time World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart, who won the fi rst (six years earlier to the day) in 1964, driving one of Ken Tyrrell’s Cooper-BMC T72s. While Stewart dominated, leaving Silvio Moser (Brabham-BMC BT6) and Mauro Bianchi (Alpine-Renault) way behind, Trimmer pipped fellow BT28 driver Jean-Pierre Cassegrain by 1.1 seconds, with fellow Britons Bev Bond (Lotus 59), the late Gerry Birrell (BT28) and Richard Scott (Chevron B17) leading the chase as the Ford MAE engine’s heyday drew to a close. This time round, with amateur historic racers rather than up-and-coming pros fi lling the grid, the lead battle was incredibly closely-fought for much of the distance. Switzerland’s Christian Traber (ex-Ian Walker Racing Brabham BT21) may have led all the way, but he had to drive defensively throughout to stave off fi rst Moscow-based Ulsterman Paul A plan for 1970 Monaco F3 winner McMorran (in the unique Crossle 17F originally intended for Birrell) and French class stalwart Francois Tony Trimmer to contest the 2010 Derossi (Chevron B17). -

Dear SCCA Media Partners, Welcome to what is truly a new era of the Sports Car Club of America, as the SCCA National Champi- onship Runoffs heads west for the first time in 46 years to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. This event, made possible with the help of our friends and partners at Mazda and the Sports Car Rac- ing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), was met with questions at its announcement that have been answered in a big way, with more than 530 drivers on the entry list and a rejunvenaton of the west coast program all season long. While we haven’t been west of the Rockies since River- side International Raceway in 1968, it’s hard to believe it will be that long before we return again. The question on everyone’s mind, even more than usual, is who is going to win? Are there hidden gems on the west coast who may be making their first Runoffs appearance that will make a name for themselves on the national stage, or will the traditional contenders learn a new track quickly enough to hold their titles? My guess is that we’ll see some of each. -

OV Newsletter 13 August 2021 OV’s Super Scholarship! Great news from OV Natasja Enthoven (W 14-19) who has recently been awarded the Hatfield College Ramsay Burn Scholarship 2021. This is a music scholarship to support her musical development in preparation for her Fellowship of Trinity College London (FTCL) Performance Diploma in solo pianoforte. The scholarship is awarded annually for a Hatfield College, Durham University student to undertake a significant and aspirational musical development activity. Natasja is currently at Durham studying Law. Commenting on her scholarship, Natasja said: “I am so grateful to Hatfield College for this substantial scholarship. I am going to use this to support my continued piano tuition in preparation for the FTCL diploma. I have been very fortunate to be able to continue with online virtual piano lessons throughout the Covid crisis with my teacher who lectures at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I was also lucky to have the support from Hatfield College who allowed me to use their piano in the Chapel during this difficult time. “Now that restrictions have been eased, I hope that the virtual competitions and concerts that I have taken part in this year will be replaced with in-person ones, much like the concerts I performed in on the beautiful grand piano in College Hall as a Music Scholar at King’s Worcester.” Congratulations, Natasja! In honour of the 50th anniversary of the 1966 inaugural season, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has created the limited production 650S Can-Am which takes its inspiration from the race cars of this golden age of motorsport. The 650S Can-Am can be commissioned now priced at £255,850 with deliveries set to commence in the spring of 2016, 50 years on from the first race at Mont Tremblant, Canada. Just 50 examples will be produced globally, all based on the 650S Spider. The Can-Am series, or Canadian-American Challenge Cup, was a no-holds-barred battle of power and speed around some of the most iconic circuits in North America and Canada. or canadian racing fans gathered at mosport (canadian tire motor- leneuve to cheer on, though he finished the friday qualifying session with fsport Park) on october 9, 1977, there was to be drama aplenty. num- a crash at moss corner. there was also the wolf wr1 designed by the ber one, and the big focus for fans and i was the debut of gilles Villeneuve great Harvey Postlethwaite, owned by canadian walter wolf and sporting in a formula 1 ferrari. a canadian, driving for ferrari! what could be bet- a canadian flag on the nose. with Jody scheckter driving, the car had ter? with flimsy credentials i had scammed a photo pass, so i could go won its very first time out in argentina and then again at monaco. pretty much anywhere i liked. could it win again in canada? crouching behind a two-foot-high piece of armco i took my photos of the cars formed up on the damp grid with minutes to go before the Villeneuve for posterity. well, ok, mainly for myself. finding the photos start. armed with my magic photo pass i walked between the front rows, recently brought back some of the memories of the race, which had clicking off a few shots of mario andretti. i was nervous. sure that some- much more than its fair share of drama. Villeneuve, to the huge delight one was going to say “where did you get that photo pass? You’re not a of canadian fans, played a large part, though he ultimately didn’t man- real photographer!” age to finish the race. -

There are countless more period photos of the vehicle, as well as additional documentation and memorabilia that just won’t fit into a single document. Additionally, the most recent restoration of this vehicle has been documented with a couple hundred more photographs. Hollywood Sport Cars (to be noted as HSC later in this document) was one of the largest importers of Ferrari automobiles into North America. The Domingo’s – Racing around Prejudice Greg Mills POSITIONED ATOP THE KILLARNEY CLUBHOUSE IN THE EARLY 1970s, I remember clearly the comment of one smirking safari-suited individual as Des Ally blasted his ex-works Chev ‘CanAm’ into the lead down the back-straight. In those days, before enclosed bars and eating areas, we used to run across the second-floor of the Clubhouse every lap to watch the cars shoot under the bridge and brake for Hoal’s Hoek (sadly renamed in the 1980s after some transient sponsor) and then we would dash over to the other side to view them up the short-straight into the Malmesbury Sweep before they headed off at a rate of knots down to the banked BP corner. ‘See what happens when you give a black man power?’ Mr Safari exclaimed, at least half, I prefer to believe, in jest about the coloured driver’s obvious speed. Ally was among the pioneers of removing prejudice from the sport if not from individuals. But the honour of being the first to do so should go to the Domingo family. They were the first F1 drivers ‘of colour’, to invoke modern parlance, way before Lewis Hamilton or even the US star Willy T Ribbs. Family patriarch Solly Domingo had been a car enthusiast since the 1930s, participating in races in the 1950s at Grand Central, according to eldest son Joe. Joe, interviewed in 2008 when 68, is one of four Domingo brothers who took up the sport in the 1960s and 1970s – along with twins Mike and Alan, born in 1946, and youngest son Yunus.
