We are still working on placement classes for the Year 1/2/3/4 students. Parents will be notified once they are finalised. I would like to formally welcome Millie Dean to Koondrook Primary School. Millie will be teaching the Year 2/3 class in 2021. Millie will be with us for the Step-Up Day on Tuesday 8th December.

Assembly th Our next Assembly will be on Friday 11 December. This will be led by the Year 6 students as it is their last.

Step-Up Day On Tuesday 8th December we are conducting a Step-Up Day. The 2021 Preps will attend their first full day at school. All students will step up and work with their 2021 class. This is a transition process in readiness for next year. Students attending Tech High in 2021 will be attending their final transition activity on this day too. All students will need to wear a face mask travelling to and from Kerang on the bus and at school.

School Captains 2021 Miss Bradford, Mr Monaghan, Ella W, Max and Harri are looking forward to the Year 5 students presenting their School Captain Speeches next Wednesday morning.

Year 6 Graduation On Monday 14th December we will be celebrating the Graduation of the Year 6 students at Tudor Tavern. We are excited that we are able to celebrate graduation this year. This year it will be a little different due to Covid restrictions. We have to limit numbers so we can only have parents, Year 6 students and teachers. There will be no extended family members or siblings. The evening will start at 6pm with the opportunity for families to take photos in the garden. Please remember that it is BYO drinks. Please remember to send back your RSVP note.

Assembly on the Green – Thursday17th December 6:30pm This year we need to make some changes to Picnic on the Green. Firstly, there will be no picnic. We ask families to have a quick tea at home before arriving at school. Also, we are unable to sing due to Covid restrictions but the classes will perform an item and we will present our awards. Again, we have to limit numbers so we are asking that only immediate family members attend. This means students, their parents and siblings only. The night will start at 6:30pm. Please bring your own chair. All people attending will need to sign in. We will need to practice social distancing and be Covid safe. If you are unable to social distance all people over the age of 12 will need to wear a mask. Unfortunately, our Jolly Red Friend will be unable to attend this year.

Library Books It is now time to start getting all your library books back to school. So, look on your shelves, under your beds and in your cupboards and toy boxes for any Koondrook Library books and return them to school. If any books are lost or damaged there is a $10 fee to pay for each book lost or damaged. This certainly doesn’t cover the cost of the books but goes someway to help. If you still have MARC books at home they can be sent to school too and we will make sure Mrs. McLaren gets them.

End of School Banking As of the start of 2021, the government has announced that schools will no longer be able to offer school banking.

End of Term The school year ends on Friday 18th December at 1:30pm. All students are expected to attend school until this date.

Jye McNeil Visit Jye McNeil, the winning 2020 Cup Jockey, visited us this morning at school. He brought his smaller version of the for us to see and spoke to the children about his journey so far. Jye gets up at around 3:30am most mornings to work the horses so they are ready for the days racing. He has to work out at least twice a week; with boxing being one of his preferred exercises. Jye estimates he has ridden in around 9000 races since he started in 2011. He has won about 720 races. One of his first wins was at Kerang. Jye still has ambitions to win the other Cups like the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup. Being a winning Melbourne Cup jockey will make him sought after by trainers and owners alike. Jye attended Koondrook PS and remembers his time here, although it looks much different from when he was here. He wanted to let the students know that even if you come from a small school like Koondrook, if you have a dream, you can achieve it with hard work and determination. The students asked Jye all manner of questions, which he answered as best he could. He was a very polite and humble speaker. Well done Jye, all of us at KPS are proud of your achievements and thank you for the visit.

MACC End of 2020 It has been great to get back to teaching Visual Arts again in the schools and getting messy with paints! At the start of the term each child was given a personal painting kit in case we had to go back into remote learning. This was due to the fact that the MACC service shares equipment that would need intense cleaning between classes and schools each day. Fortunately, we have managed to get through a term without doing that. Yippee! Grade 6 students will be able to take their kits home at the end of this year. This week is the last week of MACC classes for 2020. I will be sad to say goodbye to the Grade 6 students as they are the first group that I have taught all the way through since Prep. It has been wonderful to observe how each individual has developed their artistic skills during that time. I wish them all well with the next chapter in their lives. All students will bring home a reusable plastic folio with their artwork in it. Can parents/carers please sign the blue slip on the front and send the clear plastic folio back to school (Prep-Grade 5 only) before the end of term. This will assist with costs in 2021 as we won’t need to replace your child’s folio, thank you. Please enjoy the pieces of work and display them in your homes as the children have worked hard to create their artwork. Wishing you all a safe and happy festive season and see you in 2021. Ms Bentley

Where are our Books? Since remote learning from home and the mixed-up year we have had, a few of our library books have gone missing or are very overdue. Could families please check at home for any Koondrook PS library books and MARC library books. Not all books have gone through the system to be borrowed so I don’t know who has them but some were brand new.
