Alagoas Greener

The Greener Alagoas project was created in 2015 with the objective of restoring degraded areas throu- ghout the state. More than 600,000 native seedlings have been planted in 80 cities. About 50,000 students from public schools participated in the planting and three seedling nurseries were already built. The Coruripe Facility is the project largest partner, and is also responsible for producing most of the seedlings used.

Greenhouse gas emissions produced by Coruripe occur due to sugarcane milling, biofuel burning (ethanol) and biomass burning (sugarcane bagasse). Biofuel and biomass are renewable sources of energy which emissions have less impact on climate change compared to emissions from non-renewable sources, such as burning fossil fuels (petroleum derivati- ves).
