Queerness for Kids: A Content Analysis of LGBTQ Narrative Picture Books An Honors Thesis Presented to The Faculty of the Department of Sociology Bates College In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts By Emma W. Bouchey Lewiston, Maine May 5, 2021 Acknowledgements First, I would like to thank Professor Krista Aronson for teaching the “Power of Picture Books” class that sparked my interest in inclusive picture books and for assigning the booklist project instead of the book debate. I would also like to thank my wonderful advisor, Emily Kane, for her tireless enthusiasm and support of my work, both during thesis and throughout my time at Bates. I want to especially thank my dad for all his help. I really appreciate the companionable nights we spent working together in March when the 10 picture books on my list turned into 101. You went above and beyond, volunteered to help me track author demographics, taught me complicated Excel tricks, helped me with my quantitative data analysis, and copy edited all my chapters.
