ARCOmadrid is presented as one of the most representative international platforms and as a meeting point for the distribution, promotion and dissemination of contemporary art. This commitment to art is one of the best investment destinations, as it is a safe and rising asset for individuals and companies. ARCOmadrid is therefore the best way to boost a sector that complements its strong economic nature with other values such as the promotion of culture and knowledge, prioritising the commercialisation of works of art together with the international profile of galleries and their artists. I am convinced that you will all appreciate the quality of ARCOmadrid, which this year brings together 205 galleries from 31 countries, in particular an interesting Latin American representation. On top of this quality comes another distinguishing feature: the innovative nature of ARCOmadrid as a fair to discover and study new talent and content. I trust the fair will be a relevant instrument for collectors and professionals. In addition, the presence of a guest country at the Fair is a very valuable contribution to its international recognition. This year, the guest country is Peru, with an interesting presentation that will be accompanied by an impressive display in the city. All this will showcase the lesser known aspects of art in Peru, both through a surprising journey to the past and to regions where new contemporary art movements have emerged, such as the Amazon. Besides, the importance of Peruvian videoinstallations and photography in recent decades will be highlighted. These works will be exhibited at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Museo del Prado, Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Matadero Madrid and Conde Duque Cultural Center, among others. In addition, ARCOmadrid will provide an exceptional occasion to celebrate collecting in Latin America by offering several parallel projects going on at the same time. The Instante Foundation will host a show promoted by CIFO Europe with Peruvian artists from the collection of Ella Fontanals-Cisneros, Alberto Rebaza Torres, Armando Andrade de Lucio and Juan Carlos Verme Giannoni. The Santander Art Room will exhibit the Teixeira de Freitas collection; the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts will host the Eduardo and Mariana Hochschild collection, and Casa de América, the Jan Mulder collection. Thanks to the collaboration between IFEMA and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Madrid, the capital city of Spain becomes the epicentre of current creation and cultural exchange during the five days in which ARCOmadrid takes place. All this thanks to a commitment towards the creation of artistic heritage through collecting and in a context in which galleries, artists and other professionals can expand their horizons. This edition of the International Contemporary Art Fair is presented as one of the most highly regarded events in the international cultural calendar and that is why we want to thank all the professionals, institutions and participants that make it possible for ARCOmadrid to maintain its innovative and dynamic nature in the art market. Every February IFEMA opens its doors to host ARCOmadrid, one of the greatest artistic events on the international calendar and, undoubtedly, a symbol of Spain’s avant-garde culture. The International Contemporary Art Fair celebrates its 38th year with updated content and an artistic programme that once again focuses on quality and an interest in discovering the names and proposals

IMMEDIATE RELEASE MEDIA CONTACT: Allison Berkeley Manager of Marketing and Public Relations [email protected] 508.799.4406 x3073 RONA PONDICK: THE METAMORPHOSIS OF AN OBJECT AT WORCESTER ART MUSEUM Internationally renowned contemporary artist featured in solo exhibition WORCESTER, Mass. (March 12, 2009) – Rona Pondick: The Metamorphosis of an Object opens at the Worcester Art Museum on April 18, 2009 and is on view through October 11, 2009. Rona Pondick Muskrat 2005 H: 10 inches (25.40 cm) W: 12 ½ inches (31.75 cm) D: 4 5/8 inches (11.68 cm) Since achieving international prominence in the early 1990s, Rona Pondick (b. 1952) has become one of the most accomplished sculptors of her generation. Over the past decade, she has combined both ancient sculptural methods and the latest computer technologies to produce a powerful group of hybrid sculptures that fuse human and animal bodies or human and flora forms. Unlike other considerations of her sculpture, this exhibition presents Pondick’s art as the lens for looking at centuries of world sculpture from the collection of the Worcester Art Museum that she feels resonate with her own creative process. Provocative juxtapositions of Pondick’s hybrids with a personal selection of historic sculptures illustrate her connections to the past and her understanding of the effects of artistic cross-fertilization. The exhibition features 14 examples of Pondick’s sculptures from the past decade and focuses on her particular interest in three aspects of sculpture—the communicative capacity of gesture and posture, the treatment of hair, and the effects of repetition.
