EMERGENCY PLAN: BE PREPARED! 2014-15 This can happen anytime, not just during the

winter months. Schools can be closed for a number of reasons:

Water shortage, hydro outage, fire, etc.

If an emergency should arise, your child may be transported home at any time of the day. It is essential that you set up an emergency plan with your child, and ensure that your child is aware of the plan. If buses are rerouted during the morning run, your child will be returned to his/her pick-up point. If the students are sent home early, your child will be sent to his/her regular drop-off point. Walkers will be sent home once the buses leave. We recommend that a neighbour be asked to take your child in if he/she returns home at some point during the day. If your child is old enough to be home alone, he/she must have a house key at all times. Please keep in mind that bus changes are not permitted. If the students are to be sent home early, only then will the school organize an emergency telephone chain which will operate from the school. A contact will try to reach you at the phone numbers indicated on your Information and Authorization form. However, if the school should be shut before buses begin to operate in the morning, then parents will only be made aware via radio/tv stations. It is a good idea to listen to the radio in the morning or check the school board website. For students attending schools of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board, announcements about school and centre closures as well as any cancellations of bus transportation are given on the following radio and television stations:

• Global ; CBC 88.5 - Radio One; The Beat 92.5 FM; CHOM 97.7 FM • CJAD 800 AM; Virgin 95.9 FM; CIME FM 103.5; CBC Radio • Première Chaine 95.1 FM; Radio Circulation 730 AM; CKOI 96.9 FM • 98.5 FM; Rouge FM 107.3; NRJ 94.3 FM; Rythme FM 105.7; • Le Rythme des Laurentides 103.9 FM; M103.5 Lanaudière; TVA • Planète Luv 104.9 and 102.1; CTV; The Weather Network

These days often take us by surprise and it always pays to be well prepared. Also a reminder to always make sure someone lets your students into the school before dropping them off and leaving them here. In the case of a storm, there may not be anyone here. It remains every parent’s responsibility to have a family emergency plan, and to discuss YOUR plan regularly with your child, so that he/she remembers what do in the case of an emergency. Thank you for your help with this important matter.

Sincerely, Mrs. D. Reeves Principal
