Pioneering the way, the company has introduced such talented artists as EVIE, THE HAPPY GOODMANS, RUSS TAFF, AMY GRANT, POINT OF GRACE, CINDY MORGAN, JACI VELASQUEZ, MARK SCHULTZ, BARLOWGIRL, GROUP 1 CREW, BIG DADDY WEAVE, FRANCESCA BATTISTELLI, SIDEWALK PROPHETS, CHRIS AUGUST and DARA MACLEAN. Decade after decade, as the life-changing music of their artists infused the church and permeated culture, Word Records staffers have worked diligently to help spread the gospel of JESUS CHRIST. Word’s history includes a number of groundbreaking achievements—from launching the Family Record Club, the first direct response record club for Christian consumers, to Word’s pioneering deal with A&M Records that exploded Amy Grant’s career and earned the first platinum album in contemporary Christian music. Yet behind every No. 1 hit single, successful church musical and Dove Award-winning album, there has always been a tightly woven network of artists, songwriters, producers, sales people, record promoters and marketing executives working as a family to impact the world for the glory of God. THIS IS THEIR STORY. 5 IN THE BEGINNING ord was founded in 1951 by Jarrell iron. • Book of Acts Study, Part 53 – Wednesday, February 10, 2021 (COVID 19 Livestream #47)
Book of Acts Study, Part 53 – Wednesday, February 10, 2021 (COVID 19 Livestream #47) The Book of Acts fills in between the Gospel of John and the Book of Romans. Not only in the order in which the Books of the Bible are listed, but chronologically. So the Book of Acts is very important, it fills in important history of the propagation of the early church. It documents the spread of the Gospel into the Gentile world. Last week, we looked at the setting of the Book of Acts. We looked at the author Luke, and learned a little about him. But we also established the themes for the Book of Acts that we will be rallying around for our church, at such a time as this. Two main themes of the Book of Acts we will be emphasizing: 1. Humanly speaking, the early Christians had nothing going for them. The church was new, with unproven leaders. They weren’t educated, they had no money, no modern means for spreading the gospel. They faced incredible opposition and enormous obstacles. Yet they were empowered by the Holy Spirit to do the impossible and bring a simple salvation message to an unsaved world. If this isn’t encouraging for us here at Crossover, I don’t know what is. God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called. What is going to happen here at Crossover will be a clear work of the Holy Spirit and it will be done through common broken people, amen?! 2. Persecution was meant to squash Christianity.

  • Sparrow Records Discography
Sparrow Discography by Mike Callahan, David Edwards & Patrice Eyries © 2018 by Mike Callahan Sparrow Records Discography Sparrow is a Contemporary Christian label founded in 1976 by Billy Ray Hearn. Hearn was the A&R Director for Word Records’ Myrrh label, founded a few years earlier also as a Contemporary Christian label. Sparrow also released records under their Birdwing subsidiary. Hearn’s Sparrow label was in competition with Hearn’s old boss, Word Records, and was quite successful. Even today, Sparrow is among the top Christian labels. Hearn sold the label to EMI in 1992, and it was placed under the Capitol Christian Music Group. Sparrow signed a distribution agreement with MCA in April, 1981 to release their product in the secular market while the regular Sparrow issues were distributed to Christian stores and Christian radio stations. The arrangement with MCA lasted until October, 1986, when Sparrow switched distribution to Capitol. Talented artists representing a vast array of religious groups in America express their religion through popular music styles. Christian Rock, Jewish Reggae and Muslim Hip-Hop are not anomalies; rather they are indicative of a larger subculture of radio-ready religious music. This pop music has a purpose but it is not a singular purpose. This music might enhance the worship experience, provide a wholesome alternative to the unsavory choices provided by secular artists, infiltrate the mainstream culture with a positive message, raise the level of musicianship in the religious subculture or appeal to a religious audience despite origins in the secular world.
