WILSON'S WILD ANIMAL PARK

Type: ROUTINE INSPECTION Date: 12-JAN-2017

3.125(a) REPEAT FACILITIES, GENERAL. Structural strength: Lion Enclosure: The enclosure is 80 feet x 70 feet and 12 feet in height with no overhang or electric wire. The enclosure is constructed of the appropriate gauge chain link fencing attached to 12 foot high steel poles, 4 inches in diameter. Within the enclosure, a 7.2 foot high pyramid-type structure, on which the lion can rest upon, is located approximately 15 feet 2 inches from the front enclosure fence. There are tall tress (4) with deep roots - no lower branches - along the right side and back (approximately 8 feet) and on tree on right side is approximately 4 feet from the enclosure fence. The enclosure currently houses a ~4 year old male lion and a ~ 3 year old female lion with limited mobility. Primary enclosures must be constructed in a manner that will ensure containment of the animal. Based upon known physical and behavioral characteristics of exotic cats, additional containment measures must be made to the lion enclosure to prevent escape.

NOTE: The enclosure was evaluated by the exotic cat specialist in June 2014 and recommendations were made. The exit briefing was conducted with the owner.

This inspection and exit interview were conducted with the owner.

3.131(d) SANITATION. ** In the shed there were two palates of feed. On the second palate there was a presence of feces with some corn. On the same palate there was also an open bag of grain with bugs on it. A safe and effective program for the control of insects and mammalian pests shall be established and maintained. Also to further help prevent contamination of feed, a better storaging system may help minimize the presence of pests. Correct by September 15, 2016.

This inspection and exit interview were conducted with the Corporate Director.

In order to meet the regulatory requirement, these records must be maintained and updated on a regular basis, and made available to the inspector for review upon request. The records must be located and or recreated and be currently accurate by 30 June 2014.

3.125 (a) REPEAT FACILITIES, GENERAL. ***Organic material and debris was being dumped to the rear of the large enclosure that backs up to the pond. This has created a hazard to the animals such as (but not limited to): Broken glass. Sharp protruding wire points. Areas of potential collapse. Holes in the ground. Aditionally, baling twine is not being removed from the animal area.

There is a potential for the animals to be injured in the dump area and by the baling twine strewn throughout the animal area. The animals need to be precluded from entering the dump area, moved to another area, or the areas they have access to need to be cleaned up. The non-dump area of the pasture needs to be cleared of baling twine and other potentially hazardous materials.

An exit interview was conducted with the manager on site and with the owner by phone.

2.40(b)(2) REPEAT ATTENDING VETERINARIAN AND ADEQUATE VETERINARY CARE (DEALERS AND EXHIBITORS). There are three goats that need to have their hooves trimmed. The hooves are in various stages of overgrowth primarily of the hind feet. The one llama has overgrown toenails on the right rear foot. The pig has overgrown toenails on both front feet which is beginning to cause the digits to be in an abnormal position. If left uncorrected, overgrown toenails and hooves could eventually cause joint or foot problems.

2.40(b)(2) ATTENDING VETERINARIAN AND ADEQUATE VETERINARY CARE (DEALERS AND EXHIBITORS). One young male warthog was observed to have multiple scabbed abrasions on his body. Two of these abrasions were approximately 1" in diameter and located at the base of the ears on the head. One wound on the right flank was 1 inch in length and 3/4 inch in width. Both the young male and female in this enclosure were observed to be scratching their body and head with the rear feet. The skin on both animals appeared dry, flaky and reddened. Scratching of the skin can lead to wounds and discomfort to the animal. These animals need to be examined by the veterinarian for a diagnosis and treatment plan. Correct by January 13, 2017.

This inspection and exit interview were conducted with the facility representatives.
