  • PEAK PERFORMANCE AGE: a DESCRIPTIVE ANALYSIS of PAKISTAN TEST BATSMEN Imran Abbass
PEAK PERFORMANCE AGE: A DESCRIPTIVE ANALYSIS OF PAKISTAN TEST BATSMEN Imran Abbass ABSTRACT The study intended to explore the relationship of age and performance of test batsmen to know at what age they achieved the peak performance while playing test cricket. Qualitative data was collected through interviews and Secondary data sources were used of different ICC (International Cricket Council) websites and magazines. Sample comprised of top 12 test players of Pakistan from past and present era, who played for Pakistan with distinction. Time series and regression analysis was executed to find the significance of the relationship between their age and performance (Batting average). The findings of the study revealed a parabolic trajectory relationship between age and their performance, positive relationship at the start and then a plateau and then a negative relationship between age and performance. The rise and decline pattern varied and majority of the cricket players touched the peak between the ages of 28 to 34 years. The current study will provide solid grounds to account the role of age in producing expert performance and strongly suggested through the evidence of data analysis that to achieve the expert performance of the enrolled test batsmen, patience is required until and unless the cricket players meet a specific age limit. Key Words: Cricket, Test Batsmen, Peak Performance, Age INTRODUCTION score of 23, Aamer nicked one to On a bright sunny morning of the Bacher in the slips and in 1997-98 winters, stage was set to adding four runs Pakistan top topple the mighty South Africans four batsman were gone to the at eastern shores.

  • Saleem Yousuf (Pakistan 1982 to 1990)
Saleem Yousuf (Pakistan 1982 to 1990) Pakistan hosted the West Indies in 1986-87. Expecting a gruelling Test series, Imran Khan wanted known fighters in his team. Zulqarnain had kept wicket in Pakistan’s previous Test series against Sri Lanka and in the following One Day International (ODI) tournaments. Anil Dilpat was wicketkeeper in the first of two three-day tour games and in an ODI against the West Indies in October 1986. For the second three-day game, just a week before the opening Test, Imran brought in Saleem Yousuf and retained him for the series. Afterwards Imran felt his choice was vindicated: “In Salim Yousuf, Pakistan had found a courageous player and one who could handle a crisis.” When Pakistan toured the West Indies later in 1987-88, Saleem, despite a broken nose from being hit in the face in the first innings, came in at No. 9 in the second and played a vital innings of 28, adding 51 runs, to help set West Indies a testing score at Bridgetown. Wasim Akram considered Saleem “not the tidiest keeper, but he’s one of the bravest batsman I’ve ever seen.” Saleem Yousuf contributed much to Pakistan’s rise to the summit in Test cricket from 1986. Successes against West Indies, and series wins over India, England (twice), Australia and New Zealand meant that when Pakistan and the West Indies met in late 1990 the series was regarded as the unofficial world championship. Saleem played only in the first Test in that 1990 series, finishing his Test career by helping Pakistan take the lead.

  • Australia V Pakistan Boxing Day Test
AUSTRALIA V PAKISTAN DECEMBER 27, 2016 BOXING DAY TEST FACT SHEET - DAY 2 LIBRARY Beginning with the inaugural Test match in March 1877, 108 Tests have been staged at the MCG. One Test, in 1970/71, was abandoned without a ball bowled and is not counted in the records. Nine of the matches have involved Pakistan, Australia winning five of those contests, Pakistan two, with the other two drawn. The other sides to play Tests at the MCG are England (55), West Indies (15), India (12), South Africa (12), New Zealand (3) and Sri Lanka (2). Only Lord's Cricket Ground (133) has hosted more Test matches than the MCG (108). As Lord's currently has two Test matches per summer (it hosted three in 2010), it will extend its lead as the MCG has not hosted two Test matches in the same season since 1981/82. Of the 60 Tests between Australia and Pakistan to date, Australia has won 29, Pakistan 14 and the remaining 17 drawn. The current Test is Australia's 796th and Pakistan’s 406th. Of its 795 Tests to date, Australia has won 374 (47.04 per cent), lost 213 (26.79 per cent) and tied two. The remaining 206 have been drawn. The fact sheets for today's game will review five Tests from the nine played at the MCG between the two countries. A summary of each match will appear during the course of this game, followed by each of the remaining games on the sheets for subsequent days. 150 years ago today on the MCG - “Natives vs The World” The 1866 Boxing Day match featuring T.W.
