  • Audi Secures Second Starting Position in Qualifying Thriller Quotes After
Portland, 4 August 2001 Audi secures second starting position in qualifying thriller Spectators along Portland International Raceway will find a rather unusual picture on Sunday: For the first time in almost 15 months there is not an Audi at the front of the starting grid. After a qualifying thriller for the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) round at Portland, Rinaldo Capello and Tom Kristensen had to relinquish pole position to the fastest Panoz. Team mates Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro in the companion Infineon Audi R8 will start the race from third place. During only 20 minutes of qualifying on the circuit situated in the US state of Oregon, the Audi drivers executed exciting duels with a lot of position changes on the time screen. The Audi Sport North America team not only fought against the two Panoz cars, but also against the 2000-spec Champion Audi R8 of Andy Wallace and Johnny Herbert. At the end, the former Formula 1 driver achieved fifth position on the grid. The race starts on Sunday at 13 hours local time and runs over a distance of 2:45 hours. Tom Kristensen (#1) and Frank Biela (#2) will start the race in the two Infineon Audi R8s. Quotes after qualifying Rinaldo Capello (#1): “Concerning our tire choice, we were a little bit conservative in qualifying. We knew we would not be that strong in this session because we wanted to work mainly for the race tomorrow.” Tom Kristensen (#1): “Of course it’s a little bit disappointing to be so close to pole and then have to start only from second position.

BMW Corporate Communications United SportsCar Championship BMW Team RLL misses out on podium in Sebring – BMW Z4 GTLMs finish fourth and eighth. Sebring (US), 21st March 2015. Lucas Luhr (DE), John Edwards (US) and Jens Klingmann (DE) finished fourth in the GTLM class for BMW Team RLL in the 12 Hours of Sebring (US), the second round of the United SportsCar Championship (USCC). The three drivers completed a total of 329 laps with the number 24 BMW Z4 GTLM. The Corvette crew of Antonio García (ES), Jan Magnussen (DK) and Ryan Briscoe (AU) claimed GTLM victory. With temperatures of up to 33 degrees Celsius, the endurance classic at the Sebring International Raceway turned out to be a truly hot affair. For most parts of the race, the GTLM field was running closely together, delivering some gripping racing action to the American fans. Following a final full-course yellow with two hours to go, the cars on the lead lap were once again bunched up before entering the decisive phase of the race. With final stint driver Luhr at the wheel, the number 24 car crossed the line in fourth after 12 hours of racing, despite a problem with the power steering in the final stages of the race. For Dirk Werner (DE), Bill Auberlen (US) and Augusto Farfus (BR) the race didn’t go according to plan with the number 25 BMW Z4 GTLM. After five and a half hours, Werner entered the pit lane with a damaged front subframe, running in sixth at that time. The necessary repair work cost the trio more than ten laps, and they dropped to the very back of the GTLM field.

  • Revolution Magazine Autumn 2005
Welcome to Revolution When we launched Revolution magazine earlier this year we were pleasantly surprised by the positive feedback that we received from readers, in the form of calls, letters and emails. You 2 seemed to like the mix of information and news and it’s given us something to live up to with this, our second issue. As the largest independent distributor of turbochargers in the world, we aim to support the factors and vehicle repairers who depend on us to supply replacement turbos quickly and efficiently, and to provide advice on all aspects of turbocharging. Some of the facts and figures that we quote in this issue illustrate just how many turbocharged vehicles there are on the road today. Sooner or later, they’re all going to need some turbo attention! Inside Revolution 2 In this issue, you’ll find an article outlining the basic principle of turbocharging. It is surprisingly simple in its basic form, but technology is moving very fast, as you will see in our profile of BorgWarner Turbo Systems. We also look at the success of the Garrett®-boosted Audi R8 in June’s Le Mans 24 hour race and, by way of contrast, we see how turbocharged diesel power is becoming popular in the marina (that’s the harbour, not the seventies’ Morris car!) Win a Silverstone Track Day BTN offers you the opportunity to spend a day driving at Silverstone! Enter our simple competition and you and a friend or colleague could be off to for an adrenalin-filled day behind the wheel, in everything from a Lotus Elise on the track to a 4x4 on the specially constructed off-road course.

Bill Auberlen and Alexander Sims drove the No. 25 M6 to second place in the two- hour-and-forty-minute contest, completing 71 laps of the 3.4-mile, 20-turn track and finishing 2.498 behind the winning No. 3 Corvette. John Edwards and Martin Tomczyk, driving the No. 24 M6, finished in third place, after a strong run from the pole position. - 2 - With the benefit of the pole position, Edwards led the field from the green flag into the first turn and Sims, from the third starting spot, moved up one position to follow his teammate at the front of the field. A scrum developed at the back of the GTLM field and multiple contacts among five competitors effectively reduced the race to a four-car event.
