Parshas דברים Fantastic Fourth Week!! 8:05pm By Rabbi Feigenbaum B’Simcha דברים

In the beginning this week’s Parsha, we into seventy languages. In future find two Rashis that may seem unrelated at generations, Jews would use these languages first, but are in reality, very much connected. to learn Torah in the different lands where The Parsha begins with Moshe relating the they were scattered. various travels of the B'nai Yisroel. In the These two Rashis, the one about the first Rashi of the Parsha, Rashi explains that honor of the B’nai Yisroel, and the one the name of each place given is a reminder about the seventy languages, are very of a sin that the people committed. This much connected. Because the Torah would explains why the names of the places may be translated into seventy languages, it not be familiar. Moshe was not just telling would now be available to the nations of a story, he was giving the people mussar the world. When they would read about (rebuke). our sins, we would be embarrassed. Why did Moshe use this unusual way of Therefore, Moshe canceled his rebuke like rebuking the people? Why did he not just a code, in order not to embarrass us before say what he wanted to say? the nations of the world. Moshe This teaches us an important lesson ,”מִפְּנֵי כְּבֹודָן שֶׁ ל יִשְׂרָאֵל“ ,Rashi explains did not want to publicly rebuke them about sensitivity to people’s feelings. The "because of the honor of Yisroel." words of Moshe were important words of rebuke, yet Moshe gave this rebuke in ”הֹואִיל מֹשֶׁ ה בֵּאֵר אֶת ,later it says פסוקים A few .Moshe began to explain the a way not to publicly embarrass them“ ,הַּתֹורָה הַזֹּאת“ is What then do we have to do not to cause פסוק Torah.” Rashi comments that the telling us that Moshe translated the Torah embarrassment to others? LIVE REPORT! It’s hard to be believe that the First Session is already coming to a close! We are so busy having fun here in SDC, that time flies by so fast. Monday was Blue Day but we sure didn’t have the blues. The camp looked like a big sea of blue shirts, blue painted faces and even some blue hair! In honor of the color blue, the MIDs got blue laffy taffys! Water fights with sponges and blue water broke out everywhere! Speaking of water activities, while the campers didn't go swimming, we still got plenty of water fun in. There were sprinklers, water balloons, and even some water buckets. On Wednesday, little men invaded our gorgeous 9 acre campus, all professional looking, with beards and mustaches. They looked like campers that needed a shave during the 9 Days or maybe... it was Mustache Day on SDC?! The campers all enjoyed bowling at Woodmere Lanes, with tons of strikes, spares, and smiles to go around. The huge amount of knocked down pins meant high scores and also more tzedaka for Chai Lifeline! We hope to beat last years record of $34,000 to help sick kids have a great Summer as well! In leagues, the playoffs began and the competition was tough, always with the reminder that we play with achdus. Everyone should feel like a winner at the end! The World Series for each division will be on Monday! All bunks enjoyed enjoyed a yummy ice cream treat with an appropriate Nine Days story and lesson. We can’t wait to jump back into our refreshing, Olympic sized, the one of a kind, delicious, SDC pool, next week! The second session of the summer promises tons of excitement with overnights, major trips, and other fun events that are too geshmak to even mention. There will be no Color War this year (sorry) because it went on vacation and is now in quarantine. Coming up next Wednesday is a visit by the Live Game Show which always leaves the campers at the edge of their seats. We also have Jersey Day on Wednesday so bring your favorite Jersey to camp. Can’t wait! See you all next week! Simcha Reporter

Another awesome week in the books for the SDC CIT’s!! The action was non-stop! Leagues were back and better than ever this week. We had some highly competitive games leading up to the PLAYOFFS, where the intensity was ratcheted up to a whole new level. Congratulations to Captains Gelb and Yovits on making the championships; this Monday is the biiiiig game!!! On Wednesday we had our CIT appreciation breakfast. It was an opportunity to show how important the CIT’s are to the camp, and how much we appreciate everything you guys do on the daily to help the ruach in camp, with your leadership and ability to serve as true role models. Thank you!! All the best, Avromi Meyer CIT Division Head
